the college network

Published

Goodmorning everyone!

I have seen a lot of post here regarding the college network. I just wanted to make everyone aware of this before they decide to sign on with them. A friend of mine signed on with them. I tried to explain that they were a publishing co, and what they were. They missrepresented themselves to her, it was hard to get her to understand that. They confused her. They made it sound like she was paying per credit and they were an actual college. She took her first test the other day, she barely past. She said that there was tons of stuff on the test NOTcovered in the college network book.

Thanks

I am currently using TCN to complete my RN. I really haven't had any major problems with them. They were very clear when I met with them that they were in no way affliliated with Excelsior, they explained that once you test out of your prereqs you need to enroll with Excelsior to complete the program. I have supplemented the learnings modules a couple of times with info I purchased at book stores or on Ebay. So far so good I have gotten all B's and 1 C (cuz I didn't really study).

Sorry to hear that so many other people are having negative experiences with TCN - I am just the type of person that really needs everything right in front of me, so the learning modules work out for me.:twocents:

Lucky you, sounds like the rep that came to your house was much more honest than the one they sent to mine! Glad it's working out for since it is a costly route! Good luck!:)

TCN came to my school as well the same month I was graduating my LPN...so like previous posts I fell for it believing that they were actually "partnered" with EC like they claimed. At that time I knew nothing about distance learning, EC, or this website...wish I had! I signed the contract and now am paying $5500 for a box of worthless binders! In fact I've been paying on it since 2007:mad: I can't even begin to tell you how many nurses I have talked to that I have steered away from TCN...more than 20 I'm sure! I don't want anyone to have the terrible experience that I did!

So what do you recommend people do that have a LVN and want to go LVN-BSN? Im so confused!

Investigate BSN programs as if you were going there from day one, but look on the school of nursing links to see what they have to say about LVN to BSN bridge programs. At my school, they had a different printed (in those days there was no internet stuff yet) information sheet for each type of student, e.g. entering freshman, transfer to RN program with X amount of college completed, advanced placement for RNs with ASN degree, advanced placement with or without LVN or RN, advanced placement for LVNs, etc. Whatever appeals to you and you qualify for, look into in greater detail. Deal only with bonafide schools (usually, .edu in web address). Stay away from advertising type links. Start your search with your local nursing programs. That is your best bet for B&M, as well as, distance programs. Good luck.

I too used TCN. It is expensive and if I knew what I know now I probably wouldn't have signed up with them but I didn't know. I can't really say anything negative because it got me started on nursing while I worked as a medic (I am an RN now). If anyone did sign up with them, use the modules, they do have a lot of info that do apply to some of the tests. If anyone didn't sign up, do your research first and see if you can do without them, you probably can. Like Lisa S said, use the free study guides form Excelisor, you really can't go wrong there because they provide all the info for all the tests to be studied. There are routes you can take that are cheaper too for example: CLEP tests. Even if you CLEP it, you still have to find the materials to study to pass the tests.

It really is about what works for each person but if you are broke, do not use TCN, it's better and cheaper to buy the texts books that you might use for years to come for the exams. There are many study guides out there, however, Excelisor is the most accurate.

Just my 2cents.
