College of Marin 2018 Applicants

U.S.A. California

Published

Is anyone currently in the process of applying to the College of Marin nursing program? I just submitted my application today after not getting into SRJC's program last year. Hoping for the best this time!

Here are my points for COM:

Criteria 1: 10 pts

2: GPA- 40 pts

3. 2 pts

4. 0 pts

5. Teas- 40 pts

total: 92/100

COM has a great NCLEX pass rate, and throughout the program we are being tested the way NCLEX would test us.

Supplies:

Books- I got as many as I could used or rented ones that I could.

I think there are a couple books you need to buy bc you will use them throughout the program. Other books you use just for a semester.

$500-start up costs

I'm in maternal child and peds next semester-I don't have those books yet.

Scrubs: $175

I bought 2 pairs

Stethoscope: $85

Pen light: $8

I had extra supplies from school such as pens, pencils, notebooks, and binders.

Hello everyone I received my acceptance e-mil on Friday March 31st as well, does anyone know if we will be attending an orientation meeting before classes start or when we will get the e-mail about our schedule/class dates? I am working on getting my TB tests done, vaccinations, health clearance and I have my BLS CPR class scheduled for Saturday. I already did my drug panel, background & other required paperwork. Does anyone know if we buy our own white scrubs and then iron on a patch or are we required to buy COM scrubs and are any white tennis shoes okay? Also I wasn't able to attend or view any OL phoenix info about the BSN option, when are we required to sign up and how do we pay, is it all up front or payments? Because those classes start in July did I miss the sign up date? I wanted to wait for Sonoma state info before I did phoenix, but from what I have read both are good options except phoenix enables you to finish a semester earlier than sonoma state. Can I sign up for phoenix next summer after trying to get into sonoma state? Any info would be greatly appreciated thank you :)

Congratulations on your acceptance!

I'm happy to answer what I can:

You should receive an email (I got mine I think mid June)!with ALL your info regarding:

-Scrubs (COM used a specific company)

-textbooks

-white tennis shoes are ok-I think leather are better be you can clean them if things spill on them.

-I attended 3 days of "orientation" before the program officially started-it was the week before classes start.

-you will get your class info with the email-they will walk you through what classes to sign up for.

-we had a bbq last year before the program started and we were given our patches at the bbq.

As far as UOP is concerned:

I would talk directly with UOP-I'm sure COM can give you their contact.

Maybe ask Angela or Sarah in the nursing dept.

I dealt directly with them.

I hope this helps!

I know that it is a lot of prep to get into school and there is a lot of anxiety.

Take it step by step.

Get your cpr.

Do your background/drug test.

Get your immunizations.

Once you get your email with all the other info you can:

Register for classes

Order your books

Order your scrubs

Please let me know if I can answer any other questions.

I was really anxious before school and the not knowing caused me some anxiety.

You will have enough time to register, order books and scrubs.

@hawaiilala

Do they usually wait until everyone has everything in (like past the deadlines) until they assign us a group and tell us everything we need to do? Haven't really heard much yet.

@Teejayy

After I got my immunizations/drug and background check into COM, I then received an email with the specific email on registering for classes.

There definitely a delay between that time.

I know it's hard to wait!

In the email you will receive your specific cohort group, and in that group they will tell you what classes to sign up for.

Hi hawaiilala,

We recently received our book list and I was wondering if there were books you recommend that we buy vs rent? Like the pharm book, will we be using that for every semester (for pharm II and III)?

Thank you!

Just got my acceptance letter today! Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Anyone on here signing up with university of Phoenix for the concurrent Bsn program?

Hi All!  I realize I’m asking on a message board of new graduates from COM nursing, congrats!  Before I start a new thread, I’m wondering if any of you know how many applicants deferred starting their nursing program last year. I just applied and have 86 points. Normally I would think that’s enough to get in, but my counselor told me that “quite a few” applicants deferred last year due to COVID, so they’ll automatically get in this year, which means LESS available spots for new applicants, yikes!  I’m sure that will drive up the minimum score value to get in to the program this year. I’m sure I’ll be waiting until at least the end of March fir any response from COM. Thx for any help!!

Hello and thank you! If they are still doing the same point system, I would guess you would be fine but things are so different with covid so it’s hard to say. I wanna say that the point cut off was about 76ish for us but then many made it off the waitlist! I would be surprised if the point cut off rose that much but things might be more competitive with covid. Good luck!
