College of the Mainland Fall 2012

Any applicants out there for COM Fall 2012?

It's pretty messed up that they are bending the rules for people who failed the TEAS in the first place.

From what I heard, there was only 20 applicants before they extended the deadline. It's all about economics. Sorry you guys have to wait... With the applicant pool being less than the seats they need to fill, you all are more than likely in. And they have about 25 alt spots so not to worry. To occupy your time you could make sure your shots and CPR are in line. It's a real headache.

They must have more applicants than they are saying because I met with the "new" allied health advisor on Friday. He said my points were too low (which they are because I have two science classes in progress because they were older than five years and I had to retake them) and he would not give me an application because he said I would not be competitive and to wait. My Teas score was extremely high but he insisted that I would not get in because my points were not above 100. I asked about the low number of applications and he laughed it off like I didn't know what I was talking about and I told him that the nursing dept. told me to apply ....even after I was turned away by the last advisor. He said (in a very condescending tone) that the nursing department insisted I apply now because they don't see how high the applicants are like he does and I would never make it into the program right now and to wait and apply for the spring. Whatever. I am beyond irritated with the advisors at COM.

Sorry you had to deal with that. I don't know if things have changed but the advisor shouldn't have the applications. All the advisor does is completes your EDP and "advises" you of your options. Once you have it you get your application from the nursing department. I would give them a call before giving up hope.

Thanks TX_Nurse_2_Be. I think I will do that. I am sorry if I sounded negative. I am usually not like that. I am just frustrated. I live about one hour and 45 minutes away from COM. I am moving closer in July. So, driving there after being told to do so three times and arranging child care three times. The first time the advisor wasn't there even though we had an appointment and then the other two times having them say...no...go away after five minutes. Ugh. Ok, rant over.lol.

Yeah! I have heard bad things about the new advisor. I would just go straight to the nursing department and tell them what's going on. Keep us posted on how it's going. It seems like the advisors this year really don't know what they are talking about. I hope the program is better than it looks as of now.

HA! He was better than the last one but that isn't saying much.

Alright, so I have just kind of been lurking around this board, but I was just reading last years board for fall 2011 applicants & I feel better! There were 165 applicants last year & I know they were getting accepted with like 116 points (& that isnt alternate list, thats straight accepted) I dont think that was the lowest, but the previous 3 years before that the lowest points were 103, 104, & 115! This is the first fall semester for the TEAS, so all 4 of those years were with the accuplacer! & as of this afternoon there were 62 apps. Turned in! So I am guessing they are still failing the TEAS.

There are 69 applications in as of this morning.....

Yes I had planned on applying and took my Teas exam on Tuesday, but apparently they have closed the Pre Nursing orientation down on the website so they wouldnt let me apply this semester. So upset because they didnt post a date on their website of a closing time frame. Now i have to wait for the next semester. Very upsetting.

Wow that's terrible! Did you try talking to someone in the nursing department?

does anyone know how many applicants have applied thus far?
