College of the mainland (COM) Fall 2016

Published

Hello everyone, I'm just making a thread for everyone that is applying for this upcoming semester. I applied last for the spring but didn't get in d/t a clerical error so make sure if you guys are applying to double and triple check they have all of your information in the system. Good luck to all of you!!!

Hmmm, that's different. I'm not really sure if I'd like that. I'm guessing if we had questions about the recorded lecture we'd have to attend one of their study sessions that are offered. I think it's daily that they have them.

Exactly! I need a lecture taught by a professor not a video or slide show.

In another thread about the college from the students accepted into the spring 2016, someone in there mentioned that. They said that they did have lectures. Just not every single class. At the end of the day I know I have to put in the time to make it through. As long as I'm able to sit for the nclex then I'm fine. I just want to finish this and get it over with.

Honestly that's exactly how I feel. I'm ok with putting in extra work on my own. At the end of the day I'm sure most programs are like that. I just need the ticket for the NCLEX! Lol I really hope I can get in.

What issue did you have with the TSI that you scored lower than the first time? Were the questions too tricky?

I think so I felt confident I had scored higher and then I see my score 10points lower. Everyone that I asked said reading is super tricky they all said they took it a few times.

I just took it once. I got a 384 but I'll say this, I took the hesi the day before. So all that studying the reading tips and tricks from the hesi book came into play during the TSI and it was all fresh in my head. I doubt I can duplicate that score again.

That's a great score! I'm not sure if I want to try again. Ideally I'd like a 370 at least. I thought it would be easier to just try again and get the 2 extra points but no lol

Lol, hey you tried your best. I think you won't have a problem getting in. I live closer to San jac so that would be my first choice. But I just wanted to have some options so I said let me try for com also.

San Jac is super competitive. I did all my pre Reqs for the BSN there. I love their school just not crazy about their nursing program. I'm planning on COM and if I don't get in I'm applying for the BSN. I just want to hurry and get it going. I feel like I've been in school forever! lol

Yea I heard they are pretty competitive. Alvin is worse. They accept 30-40 students out of 200+ applicants. So basically only 15% get in. That's rough. Will you be working during your time in the program?

Yes super competitive. Yes I will I work at Texas Children I'm a ER tech and now am helping open up urgent cares so they're paying my school 100%. I need my RN to start managing.
