Hi there -
So I've been following a bunch of threads for COC but still haven't been able to come across an answer for this, so I was wondering if anyone had some insight. Please bare with me while I explain my situation...
I'm gonna be applying during this summer application period for Spring 2016 at COC.
I have two different transcripts from both the college I'm currently at now, and the one I attended prior.
For my school I'm currently at now, I have a 4.0 GPA, Academic Honors, and in Phi Theta Kappa.
This is the school I got an A in micro, A in anatomy, and an A in physio, as well as As in english and speech.
However, before I was at this school, I attended another university. I was in a rough patch in my life at that time and kind of started off on a bad note back in 2011. I have a W and an F in chemistry there, but I know this isn't a core course (I eventually went on and got a C with it at the current college). I'm regretful of not leaving that school sooner when I was facing problems, but whats done is done and I was glad I was able to turn it around with where I'm at now.
NOW, the question is -
how will that affect me in my application?
I know some schools look at trends and generally the ones that can show a turn around, it is no problem. My overall GPA when combining my two GPAs from the separate schools adds to be 3.0. So I'm just kind of stuck as to what odds I have. Because I've been working my butt off since then to fix everything, which I like to believe I've done well at.
Any thoughts, comments or ideas are much appreciated.
And thank you for reading my short story, haha.

Hey!! I graduated from COC a few years back and my gpa wasn't that great to begin with as well. To answer your question, it will depend on how many applicants they get. I would hope that COC will look at your trend and how you were able to turn it around. However, the bottom line is that it is all about the GPA. I know they usually get about roughly 120 - 150+ applicants a few years back and they can only take about 70 ~. After which, the rest are put in a "alternative selection pool," where they are informed that they have to wait for a semester before they can start the program, unless someone retracts their application, in which case they select someone from the alternative pool to replace that person (that's how I got in). Just hope for the best and submit your application! COC is a great program, it was organized and detailed.
Best of luck to you!
Thank you for this note [:
I definitely hope that they see my trend, and the fact that my Core Bio GPA is a 4.0, so fingers crossed. I actually just spoke with one of the nursing advisors the other day when I stopped by the campus to submit my transcripts and she seemed not to be too worried about it and told me to focus on the TEAS because thats going to pull the most weight in the determining factor. So naturally, I'm busting my butt off studying and reviewing for that! Haha
Thank you again

Hello!
I just finished 2nd semester. It is a fabulous program and they are highly organized. No one really knows for sure if you will get in or not, so the only thing you can do is apply and hope! When I applied, there were 250-300 applicants and they admitted 60 students. Each semester is a little bit different and it certainly depends on several factors (amount of applicants, grades of applied applicants, funding, instructor availability) etc etc. your stats are great, and the semester I applied, they did ranking first, then random draw.
It doesnt hurt to apply and the worst thing that can happen is you dont get picked. There are TONS of schools to apply to.
Good luck!
I submitted my pre-req evaluation this past Monday so now it all begins :))
Ive heard so many great things about COC's program, and especially like you said, organized, so I'm hoping I get in because this is my first choice.
good luck in your upcoming semesters!

Omg, organized is such an understatement! Lol. They are smart too....They are one of the first colleges to notify of acceptance. Which means they get THEIR first pick too, they know most people apply everywhere, so they can get their top picks locked in before other school which means they get some of the best students! Lol. I applied to two schools (COC and another). COC notified me April 15 (right on schedule like they said, by email) and my other college wasnt sending notices out until mid June! Do you live near COC?

I sent my pre requisite evaluation June 8th. She said I was a very strong candidate. Nobody knows for sure if you will get in. The TEAS score has the final say. Time to start preparing for it :)
I am in almost the same case. I got 4.0 core bio and 3.8 general gpa. 4.0 gives you 25 points core bio and 3.0 gives you 10, 3.5 gives you 15 pounts. It's all point based. Since that F and W is not in your bio I was told no points are deducted.
Cograts Will! Dont over stress the TEAS. I Studied the TEAS book cover to cover and purchased the two practice exams. You will do just fine! Keep us posted!
Idk why I'm JUST now seeing this, but I appreciate your reply! :] Your stats are definitely awesome, a strong candidate indeed. Where did you find the breakdown for points? I had been searching for a way to figure that out. I got approval to submit application from the eval two weeks ago, so I'm anxiously awaiting August 1st to do so! I've been studying for the TEAS exam though since like February, haha. Little bit every other day since then. Now getting more into it though as the time goes on.
I wouldn't say that i live near COC.. haha. I live in Thousand Oaks, so I'm a good hour or so away from it. Moorpark is the closest nursing program to me, which I am applying to as well But COC has the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, which I've been apart of for several years now. Therefore, I would love to get in so I can stick with it
COC Also has Alpha Delta Nu which is the honors in nursing!!!!
