Hello all! I was wondering if these two courses are similar. I'm not very good in math and managed to get a B in College Algebra. I'm taking statistics this summer and I can't help but to wonder what I'm getting myself into. Are there a lot of formulas that I will have to memorize like College Algebra? For those people who have already taken both courses, how would compare the two on a scale from 1-10 with 1 being easy and 10 being difficult? Are there any websites that you can recommend that will help me memorize or get a jump start on learning the different formulas if any?

Are they both required for your program? We only have to take one or the other. I spoke with my math professor earlier this semester about it and from what he told me statistics was more story problems where in algebra you are just plugging numbers into formulas. I am taking college algebra over the summer and am a little nervous about it.
Yes. They're both required for my program. College Algebra was very difficult for me but with a lot of tutoring and I do mean A LOT I managed to get a B.

I am pretty crappy with math and absolutely loved statistics! In Algebra you are just plugging numbers into a formula with no "story" or reason for the calculations. In stats the work is all related to a story and very easy to understand.
How would rate the difficultly level of statistics on a scale from 1-10 with 1 being easy and 10 difficult?
I don't know that you can really rate a class like that. I found it to be a 3-4 but my friend thought it was a 6-7. That being said we both did really well in the class she just took a little longer with the minitab projects and homework. It is a very manageable class and quite fun. It also helps that most entry level stats classes use a calculator. Thus a lot of the work will be done by computer or calculator. You will need to understand the concepts behind it but don't need to worry as much about making simple arithmetic mistakes.

I'm in the same situation. Statistics is not required in the ASN program I'm accepted to but, since I'm an LPN and get to skip the first semester, I'm taking statistics because it is required if I transfer for my BSN. I have researched it some online and some things I have found I'm familiar with because I have taken college algebra (graphing) and a few things I actually knew before such as median, mean, and mode. A google search helped and I also downloaded an app for my iphone to check it out. I hope it's not so bad. Good luck!

The professor can make all the difference. I had a great professor, and I'd say it was about a 5/10, but I felt the same way about algebra.

Wolfram statistics app. I downloaded their algebra app last semester when I had it and it helped me as well.

These lessons on Itunes looks OK. I haven't taken statistics in a long time, there may be better better video courses.

Good day:
I go to HACC who creates iTunes like dt70 posted. They do offer online statistics for those who might be interested at hacc.edu
Thank you.
