CODE TEAM NURSES?

2. I'm looking to enter the nursing field.My past year of high school was a eye opener, as I did I coop placement( therapy program and I got to help out in the surgery unit) through my school at a local hospital and learned so much! I knew health care was right for me so I became cpr certified, volunteered at a larger surgery unit at another hospital and through school did 1 month of placement at a nursing home. I love being in the hospital, thats where i wanna work period. But there are so many jobs in health care I dont know what to do. Any suggestions?

    Working on a code team is not a specific job per se. The Code Team is comprised of physicians, nurses and respiratory therapists who are doing their usual job, but are assigned to respond in case of a cardiac arrest. They do not just sit around waiting for one to happen. I hope this answers your question.

    In my hospital the ICU nurses respond and it's just kind of whoever isn't busy at the moment or is open for an admission then we take off. At least 2 ACLS certified RNs.

    Where I work there is no "code team". Each inpatient unit has to send a person as well as the ER doc and staff on the unit where the code is if needed.

    My hospital has a dedicated code team per shift. ICU and residents come flying through the buildings pushing the mothership sized crash cart.

    All floor nurses participate in a code. We run it until the crash team arrives and get filtered out as they take over.

    I know one NA that has started the code three times, poor woman.

    In 15 years, I've never had a patient code on me. Fingers crossed for the next ten, until I retire.

    My hospital is huge and codes are just not that frequent. Our job is to monitor the patient to prevent codes.

    It's not all drama like the medical shows du jour.

    I work LTC and the managers are the code team. We had a code called last week and maybe 10 people attended. We also take turns carrying the emergency response phone for a week at a time.

    But it's not that exciting most of the time.
