I'm starting this thread for everyone applying for COC's spring 2014 RN program. Please feel free to join in. We're all in this together! For anyone who's thinking of applying, the deadline for turning in your transcripts and requesting your prerequisite evaluation is tomorrow!
I'm an LVN hoping to get into the LVN to RN program. I applied last year and received an email notifying me that I qualified for the program but that they didn't have the required 20 qualified LVN applicants to offer the class. Booo hooo hooo... Oh well, I completed all of the General Ed classes in the meantime and have my fingers crossed for this time around :-)
I'm a little nervous about the TEAS V test and am starting to study for it. I read that the test is pretty challenging. Yikes!
I look forward to hearing from my fellow nail-biters!
goldenheart10 - Don't worry! Being an alternate is not always a bad thing. Last semester they took nearly 20 of the 30 alternates from the list. If there are no-shows at the orientation you never know - you could possibly get in. Crossing my fingers for you![/quote']Thank you! How many alternates does COC normally have? 20-30 sounds like such a big number. I was accepted to LATTC and am waiting for other schools as well, but COC is much closer than any other school to me.

30 alternates are selected and they won't tell you what number you are on the list so I just kept calling and asked how many alternates have got in so far. I called them from April to August :-/ It was somewhere between 20-25 but the semester before that was around 18. Never know... Hang in there.
Hello,
First time poster, but I have been following this thread since September.
I was chosen as an alternate, and while I'm a little disappointed, I'm relieved that I'm not out of the running for the Spring 2014 program.
I called the office this morning and Gaye said there were 30 alternates chosen based on a rank system. For other alternates following the thread, was just wondering what your stats are ..
Mine are as follows:
TEAS exam: 75.9% (I studied for about 8 days before my exam date.)
Prereq (science) GPA: 3.5
Overall GPA: 2.9 (early educational mistakes)
I have a bachelors degree and about 100 volunteer hours at a hospital.
Congratulations to all those who have already been accepted into the program!!! And.. GOOD LUCK! for those who are still waiting for a seat. :]
omgonlyinstilettos - I'm sad that you didn't get in but I'm keeping all my fingers and toes crossed that you get in the college of your first choice! Keep me posted!
jrosec - Congratulations! All the waiting and wondering is over!
goldenheart10 - Congratulations on getting chosen as an alternate! From what I've heard, COC is usually the first college to send out notifications. A lot of applicants apply to several colleges including COC and when they get accepted at a college that's closer to home, they remove themselves from COC's list. This thread has some good examples:

I can't wait for your post that you got in!
Chrristinad and Luz - I'm sooo happy to start the LVN bridge with friends! We'll get through this together! We can do this!
Hi everyone!
I just stumbled upon this forum.. I got an email yesterday that I was chosen as an alternate! After reading the above comments, it looks like I still have hope to get into the Spring 2014 Program.
I'm sure I'll be seeing you all at the Orientation next Friday!:)
I have a 3.1 overall GPA, 80% on the TEAS, 240 volunteer hours, but around a 2.5 GPA in micro, anatomy, and physio.
