CNL Applicants - Spring 2016

Published

Hi, nurse-hopefuls! I've been following along on all of the threads from the previous semesters and thought it might be nice to start fresh for the new round. Applications are due in about a month and a half and I was wondering how people were feeling?

My baccalaureate GPA is a 2.9, but my pre-requisite GPA is a 3.73. I also know I have a really strong personal statement. I'm hoping that will make up for my undergrad gpa.

Is anyone else getting nervous? The last thing I'm waiting on are my letter of recommendations so I'm hoping those come in soon...

Wishing you all luck!

I'm just dying because there are three of us here, and I applied by September 1, and I can't believe I have to wait until October to hear anything! The waiting is the worst!

Just checked my application status. It now says, "committee ready". OMGosh....I'm so nervous! Anybody else see a change in status?

Mine hasn't changed. What does Committee ready mean? This is seriously the worst.

I am pretty nervous, too. I got into another program two weeks ago that I now realize I can't afford. I always wanted to go to UMSON for the CNL program, and they are the last one I have to hear back from! It's so nerve wrenching.

Ugh, you guys, I looked at some old threads, and there are people who didn't hear until late November! I think mid-October is when the first round of acceptances go out.

How are you guys planning on paying for this, if you don't mind me asking?

Hi Everyone,

I've applied to this program as well and I am anxiously waiting for a decision. I'm nervous because I haven't received anything yet via email or US mail like many of you have. Just a little background about myself. I was a Nutritional Sciences major with a minor in Chemistry. I had an undergraduate GPA of 3.58 and I'm almost done with my MBA in healthcare. I have a current graduate GPA of 3.83. I feel like my recommendations are very strong. I had originally reached out to 5 recommenders just to be safe should in case 2 not get back to me. But as fate would have it, all 5 turned in letters on my behalf. I have both academic (grad & undergrad profs), and a professional recommendations. I interned at the CDC from 01-07-05-08 and assisted with a project there in collaboration with JHU. I also have 100+ hours of volunteer experience in a Labor and delivery unit, and I've volunteered with Habitat for Humanity to complete a home, I've helped pack 5,000 school lunches for inner city youth who would probably not have lunch while they were home during spring break. I'm also a member of a few honor societies. I feel good about my personal essays. But nevertheless, I'm still NERVOUS ...lol

Am I a competitive applicant?

fakinw1:

why did you not apply to PA programs with those creds?

your fine. stop worrying.

everyone, deep breaths. it will most likely take at least until November. My cohort had a deadline of Feb 1 and and I did not even see a change in my status until mid-April. They were still sending out acceptances in May. Its a slowwww process.

Enjoy the journey ;)

My "Decision" status just changed to "Committee Ready", as well. I guess that means that the applicant is now in the queue for review? I have a question. I know a lot of admissions requirements changed for the Spring 2016 cohort. The admissions page said that for this round of admissions, the admissions committee will contact the applicant if an interview is needed. Does this mean that admissions is not requiring everyone to do interviews anymore? I was confused by this.

I took that to mean that if you are being considered for admission, that you'll be called for an interview. If you don't get an interview, then you're rejected off the bat. Someone else said that everyone above the minimum gpa gets an interview.

Hi Kmun911,

Thank you for your reply and for reassuring me a little. I ultimately want to become a DNP nurse anesthetist. But thanks for suggesting the PA profession as well. I've applied to JHUSON as well. And I will just have to patiently wait.....it's so nerve-racking though lol.

Hi ldb89,

Yes, I concur with what SKN19 said regarding the interview! I went to the CNL information session in September and the person conducting the session told me "Only those that are being actively considered will receive an interview".

Ok. Cool. That's what I thought originally. I just wanted to make sure I was understanding correctly. Thank you very much.
