I completed a medical assistant program 12 years ago and nothing transferred to the LPN program that I attended.

People fail to realize that the MA is a part of the medical model of care provision, not the nursing model.

ooohhh so dont waste my time lol just go straight to lpn? well the only this with that is i have no pre-req at all! and i want to attend a private school so i wont have to wait a very long time i just need alot of info and advice

Being an MA has nothing to do with becoming a nurse. Just do your prerequisites and then apply.

Unless you only want to work in a physician's office then you need to go ahead with an LPN program. And if you decide to go school to be a medical assistant, just realize that your pay will not be as much and you will be limited as far as employment. Medical assistants have to go to school almost as long as LPN's (I think), and you would have more options as a LPN and the pay could be about twice as much.

If your end goal is to be a nurse, I would just skip the M.A. program all together. I think their job is really interesting(and they always seem to look like they enjoy their jobs when I go to various doctor's offices), but it is indeed limited.

I agree with what everyone else has said. I am also a Nursing Assistant currently in an LPN program. Skip the MA program, it would be, for lack of a better phrase, a huge waste of your time. Most MA programs are one to two years in length. If you have no college credits, that would translate to the amount of time it would take for you to successfully complete a PN program since some schools require prerequisite courses. I wish you success in your future endeavors, but 86 the MA idea. CNA is enough lol

Consider this also. If you were to become a Medical assistant, your supervisor in most cases would be a RN or LPN. Why not go to school for LPN or Rn so that some day you could be the supervisor.

SKIP MA! It has nothing to do with LPN school. Your CNA backround WILL help you alot with certain things in LPN clinical. It gives you great experience for your first rotation which is USUALLY just preforming AM care, and basic acessment skills. You will have an advantage over your classmates. It also helps you with Fundementals of Nursing I because alot of that comes from the basic nursing care CNAs provide. My clinical instructors ALWAYS look toward the other girls who are CNAs & I to be leaders and help out others in clinical because we know alot more and can get things done effeciently. :yeah:
