Hi all.

I am a nursing student, planning on taking the CNA course at Ivy Tech in Indiana in January. I was reading through some of the paperwork today, and it said that once you took the state test, it could take 6 weeks to receive your certification. This surprised me. Does it really take that long

to get your certification papers once you pass the test??

I live in another state, but yes. My class took our test in the middle of May. 2 months later I still had nothing in the mail and nothing on the online registry! I asked my friend who had taken the class before me how long it took for her and she said she never did get anything in the mail, but she was registered online. No one in my class could get a job! I had to call the school and ask about it, and they said they would look into it. A week later our certificate numbers came in the mail... I don't know if the school forgot to send the paperwork or if it was the state that screwed up, but I know when it comes time to renew I'll be doing it well ahead of time.

I too live in Indiana, and yes, it took me a little more than 6 weeks to get mine!

The good thing is that you can start working before you get the copy in the mail - just tell your employer that you haven't received it yet and they can call in to verify it.

I live in MI, and we are able to start working as soon as we have finished out CNA traing, but have to take the state test within 6 months. Maybe it is the same in other states? If you dont pass the state test you have one retake and you can continue working.

I think she was just talking about receiving the actual paper certificate after passing the test.

But, in Indiana you can work for 3 months while you're waiting to take the test, but it did take me the full six weeks to get mine.

They told us we would be on the registry within 24 hours. I am not sure about any paperwork through the mail. I would think they would send something. If anyone is in north carolina maybe they can answer that for me.

Hello,

I took my state test on a Saturday morning. My Instructor did not hesitate. We were given our results immediately after completion, and even walked with her to the fax machine to observe her transmitting the materials to PA. Despite her efficiency, I was not placed on the WI CNA Registry until the following Wednesday, and received my CNA card/certificate two weeks later. The PA Red Cross is either really slow, or incredibly back-logged.

Best,

Mike

I recieved my certificate about 2 months after i passed the test. The night I passed I was given paperwork to show that i was certified and used that to immediately get a job.

well when we went to the exam site, they said it would be on the nurse registry with in 48 hrs and about 2 weeks for all the paper wheter you passed or not. For me I failed the first time but retook it 2 months later, ask me why, i dont knw myself but after the 2nd time I passed and I am proud I did decide to retake it. plus I can go back to my teacher's class with knowing I passed; I dont know if she knew I passed.

i got my papers in about 2 weeks on the registry in about 48 hrs to 72

took me about 2 weeks for mine, but I guess they will tell you how long it should take when you take the sate written exam

I passed my CNA exam on 6/1 and still haven't received my certification number! I've been checking the board of nursing website every day, as of this afternoon it said they are waiting on the results of my background check. It's crazy how long this process takes!
