So we had clinicals today and tomorrow we have it. Its going be another long day.
I have to say the CNA-nursing aide constructor is the most unprofessional teacher I have ever seen in my life. It seems like just because he is a nurse he thinks he is above everybody else in the classroom. He talks down to students and has even talked down on me saying:"You cant do anything right. Look you are not even doing it right. You have book smarts but you need to practice on some of the skills." He is very rude. He downgrades everyone.
I thought to be a teacher you are supposed to teach them not ridicule them.
Im not the only person that has complained about him. The whole class has! When we were on break they were talking about how unprofessional he is.
He tried to rush us through the clinicals.
I honestly wish I could report him somewhere but I dont know. I just dont like the way he teaches and Im not the only one complaining.
You arent supposed to downgrade someone and make them feel bad. Its just downright uncalled for.
Im not even going to talk about the facility that we went to. The Cna's there were lazy! I saw a couple out there smoking it seemed like the whole time. The teacher was even talking to them most of the time and not even watching us. When we had questions we had to walk to find him.
I saw one resident with a scratch mark on her. It was red. She said one of the CNA's working there did it. The CNA then talked to us and then had a smirk on her face and said:"Now lady you know that is a lie." One of the students was like"R u going to clean it up" and the Cna just put a band aide over the blood and said she was going to clean it up later.
I went in one room and one resident was complaining about sitting on the toilet for a long time. I guess a nurse or CNA just left her there for awhile and didnt check up on her.
I almost dont even want to go there tomorrow. Its one more clinical and a final on monday. But this almost makes me not even want to get into nursing. Im starting to feel down on myself. I know there are some good nurses out there but he is just ridiculous.
So my question has anyone else experienced this and do you think this is unprofessional ????????

Things like that happen everywhere. When I did my clinical (although I didn't witness this but my classmates did), a CNA was supposed to clean a patient who just pooped on herself, and the CNA went "ewww, that's so gross, I am not gonna do it." So someone had to do it at the end. Don't worry about your teacher. I would just tell myself that he wants me to pass the board, he wants to succeed in clinical, that's why he is being harsh. How much longer do you have to deal with him any way? When the class is over, when you pass your board, whatever he said to you doesn't matter. He probably is just one of those overworked, underpaid, unfortunate people who has to exert his aggression and unsatisfaction somewhere. Good luck! Don't take everything too personal!
you are right.
but its easier said then done when he downgrades everyone constantly. its overwhelming. one time he actually went in my face and was like"can u do this job!? can u?."
i have just one clinical with him tomorrow and monday is the last day of class. i guess i should stop complaining. only 2 more days.
but yeah everyone was complaining how rude he was today and talking about having a drink after class lol

Your time putting up with him is very limited. Time to get upset when you get a job and your bosses or coworkers are awful in some manner. Then you will have something to develop ulcers over. Good luck on your tests and good luck on your first job.
this is true...
ive had experience though with some awful coworkers but none were this bad. im sure theres nurses out there though like him.
thanks for the good luck. ill need it

Can I ask what kind of institution you're taking this CNA class at? Is it a Community College, the Red Cross, or a private training center?
training center.
I'm always wary of private training centers. The teachers and teaching methods in some of these places are just shoddy and unpolished.
anyways the class ended today thank god! i passed the class but need to practice on the skills before the state test. wish me luck

Sounds similar to my CNA class! My instructor was old and mean. When it came time to practice our skills I forgot one small thing (I don't remember what but it was tiny) and she flew off the handle yelling "YOU THINK YOU'RE BETTER THAN ME?????" It was crazy. I had to really hold my tongue. Not a pleasant experience! That's unfortunate about the patients where your clinicals were. At mine they mostly just left people lying on incontinence pads (no undies, just shirts) with a sheet over them and were not very quick to change the pads. You would think a CNA class wouldn't be so unsettling! Maybe they are secretly trying to knock out the competition for the nursing programs
ahhhh sounds just like the teacher I had. He was like:"I DONT UNDERSTAND. YOU CANT DO ANYTHING RIGHT." "DO YOU THINK YOU CAN DO THIS JOB!?."
I held my tongue for the longest. I could have walked out. But anyways I got an A on the tests. we had a test everyday and we had a final and I got an A on it. I just need to practice on some of the skills.
lol secretly trying to knock out the competition. you might be right! im second guessing myself in wanting to get into nursing now. But I know im a good student. I already went to college and have a degree. I just dont wonder if I have what it takes to get into nursing. It seems hard.

If it's any consolation, these abrasive teachers kind of sound like a lot of the nurses you'll have to work under. So maybe they're just trying to get you prepared for the "real world".
