Hi everyone-
I'm a newbie. I've been a lurker for a long time, but just recently joined. so hello to you all.
I need some help...
I have 2 things left to do before I am apply to the program-
1) take Chemistry
2) Take the CNA course.
Well, there's no issue with #1, but #2 is starting to distress me!
I was enrolled in the CNA course for next quarter, everyting was set. The I got an email telling me it was being cancelled! ACK! :angryfire I emailed my advisor to find out what the deal was and she told me it was a "budgetary decission" and that she couldn't gaurantee the same thing wouldn't happen next quarter- which is the deadline for me to have everything in order to be able to apply!
SO now... I'm trying to find a CNA course out there somewhere.
I live in the Bothell/Kenmore/Woodinville area, and I have to take night, late evening, or weekend classes. I checked a few local places, and i am still in the process of getting some details. I'm pretty sure EdCC and BVCC aren't going to be options b/c they would reauire me to re-take a bunch of stuff I've already done, and I would have to attend for 2-3 quarters to get it all done.
HELP!
I just need to get my CNA- you'd think it wouldn't be that darn hard!
Are there any other schools, technical institutes or other training programs out there??????

I earned my CNA license through Lake Washington Technical College. Although they require you take medical terminology too. They also required getting all the vaccinations and cpr for healthcare providers within the first few weeks of classes starting. I definately think the community colleges offer the best experiences. I had two classes canceled on me prior to that through private agencies. The evening classes were from 4 to 9pm Tuesday-Thursday. The instructors were terriffic. I hope this helps.
Thanks, but LWTC is where I was enrolled but cancelled the evening courses...
Guess I should have mentioned that... :trout:

If you want to get it over with as quickly as possible, try the Nursing Assistant Training Institute (NATI) in Shoreline. They have classes starting monthly (that last about a month, then you do your clinicals, then take your certification exam). I know the August class is full, and they tend to alternate between doing a day class one month and a night class the next month. The next evening course would start October 11. I understand there's also a similar program in Everett, but I don't know the name of it.

The Everett CNA training is call MedPrep. Their website is medprep.com and it looks like they have an evening class coming up soon. Good Luck!

I currently went through the EXACT same issue.
I noticed that there are a lot of LTC facilities that offer a FREE CNA class, but many of them invite you to work for them afterwards...
So in your area my suggustion would be check the local paper or contact them directly..

I was going to suggest checking with Long Term Care facilities as well. It's a free course, and no commitment to have to work for the facility.
Good luck, I understand your frustration.

You can search by county and it will provide you a list of CNA programs in your area: private, college, nursing homes, etc... Good luck in your search!

OlyNP2B-
Thank you so much for posting that link! I went through the Olympia phone book today making calls to facilities and was planning to do the same for Lewis and Pierce County. You have saved me so much time!!!
I really appreciate that you are willing to be helpful!

I second this. I did mine at NATI in Shoreline too. Overall, it was a good experience. I did mine a couple summers ago and it was in the evening as well. The only thing that was not in the evenings were some skill labs that I had to schedule on a weekend morning. This is also one of the locations that NACES administers the state exam. so I felt conifident taking my exam there because I had already familiarized myself with all the equipment and logistics of the place.

Contact LTC facilities! Some offer a free class and just make sure you don't sign anything that requires a work commitment. I did mine that way and it was perfect. They may offer for you to work there, but nothing is required if you don't sign anything. The instructor who taught my class worked for the company but didn't care if we worked there or not and really wouldn't have had any knowledge if we continued on or not as she was always in the classroom! Best of luck to you. Don't bother with the training institutes and comm. colleges, you will save about $1000!
