Healthcare Professionals in Recovery
Welcome! I wholeheartedly understand your recovery, I have also been charged with DUI as a nurse, and I completely understand the day to day struggle, as well as the need to find someone to understand what it is you are going through. Please feel free to PM me if there is anything else I can offer! Sometimes a little vent is all it takes to make the world right again. :) Good luck and welcome!

Dilemma... How to leave gracefully
I had a very similar experience, and while I may not be in my "dream job" I am in a facility where I know my license is not at risk each day I clock in. I agree with the other posters, thank them for the opportunity to learn, you found something with full time and benefits, and I would mention that you felt the patient load was a little high for a new grad in your position and you are more comfortable where you are going. That is all they need to know, and that is what you are obligated to give to receive a good recommendation should the time come. It is a small community of nurses and it's good that you stay on the positive side of your old employers. :) Congrats!

Skagit Valley College RN program!!
I am anxiously waiting to hear from Whidbey about a FT RN program for this year... Rumor has it that is in the works, and still waitlisted at Mount Vernon. Its so frustrating to be waitlisted. I just want to finish my RN. Argh. Congrats though!

Skagit Valley College RN program!!
No prob, what I do know is limited. They are weaning the waitlist, so they are not adding anyone else to it, but take a handful of people from it each quarter. It will eventually be just a competitive program. So far the students that I have spoken to that have been accepted have had above a 3.8 GPA in the required pre-reqs. They seem to feel it is a decent program, but there was some news articles recently that said they had to let go of 5 nursing instructors at the Mount Vernon Campus.(Budget cuts) I am not sure yet how that is going to work with the program. ? The Whidbey Island Campus (Of SVC) has a LPN to RN bridge program that is part time (1 evening class a week ~5 quarters?) I really liked the instructors out there. They also have an LPN program. So I guess it depends on what you are looking for. :) Hopefully that helps :)

Skagit Valley College RN program!!
I know that they are revamping the program so that it will not be acceptance from a waitlist. Seems that should help with the graduation rate, I am hoping to get in for 2nd year or look to Bellingham Technical college to get my LPN-RN. CONGRATS and good luck!

Current LPN finishing RN, moving to WA, need help please!
As far as hospitals that are close on Whidbey-there is the Navy Hospital in Oak Harbor, Coupeville has Whideby General (10 minutes or so from Oak Harbor) IF you were willing to drive-Anacortes (maybe 30 minutes from Oak Harbor) has Island Hospital or there is Mount Vernon which has Skagit Valley Hospital (45 minutes from Oak Harbor) Good luck to you! -n

New Grads and Resumes
Is it too late to get in on this discussion? I took (and Passed!) my NCLEX last week and need to get my resume out there, however, since I am still looking for my first "nursing" job I am having a hard time taking my skills from my current position and applying them to my new LPN title... Can I go ahead and send a copy to anyone?

Who is starting LPN in August?
I just found out that I am in for September start with August 09 graduation! Yeah! I'm at the local community college. I applied for both my RN and LPN, but the RN list is moving so slow! This way I can get my foot in the door, get some great expiriance, and then work on my RN brigde shortly. Good luck to everyone!!!

Getting a Job as a CNA when resume is IT heavy...
I also struggled getting my foot in the door, I was a Veterinary Technician for 5 years, so I had some healthcare expiriance, and both fields require compassion. I am sure that at some point, the hardwork pays off! I was just hired on as my first CNA position and they payed for my CNA certification. There is also scholarship programs available for students that are continueing on in Nursing, what a great deal! GOOD LUCK!!!

Cna
I currently went through the EXACT same issue. I noticed that there are a lot of LTC facilities that offer a FREE CNA class, but many of them invite you to work for them afterwards... So in your area my suggustion would be check the local paper or contact them directly.. Nat
