So I'm 18 years old. I should first say I'm new to this site and not so sure just how to use it yet. So I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section. But I have a lot of questions. As I stated, I'm 18. I didn't graduate high school nor do I have A GED. But in SC its not required that you have to have a GED or HS diploma to be a CNA. I am thinking of moving to Charleston after I get my CNA. But my real question is.. Can I make a decent living being a CNA? I might have a roommate who is also looking into becoming a CNA. But I'm very worried about living on my own. I have heard that the pay is crap & some say it is pretty decent pay. Can somebody please give me some advice ! I'm lost. Thanks soo much. :)

I don't live in SC, but in PA so I don't know the salary there...sorry. Around here it's about 10-12 an hour at LTC facilities...you can look online at salary.com for your area to see what the typical pay is. Good luck.

First, welcome to allnurses. Yes, you are in the right forum for your question.
I'm not sure how much Charleston area pays a CNA, but consider this. A "decent living" is an opinion. Only you can say what is a "decent living" for yourself. The more "stuff" you want...the more money you have to make!!
Also, keep in mind that although the minimum requirements to get certified may not require a diploma/ged, employers may require it!! It is a personal choice, but I'd encourage you to get your GED.
All that being said, there are plenty of people out there working as CNAs and supporting themselves on that income. You can too!!! Just be responsible with the money that you bring in and what goes out. One of the best books that I have ever read was "The Total Money Makeover" by Dave Ramsey. I recommend everyone to read this book.
I wish you all the best and good luck!!

I live in Conway, SC which is close to Myrtle Beach. I've made from 8.00 - 10.63 at different facilities. It just depends!

Charelston is a very high price area. CNA's make above minimum wage, so you are looking at 9.00-12.00 an hour with benefits. Home health usually pay higher than hospitals and LTC facilities. You can call area employers and ask HR what the starting pay is to give you a better idea.
