Okay after reading several of the post here I have to say I am begining to doubt my decision to be a LNA I just passed the state exam and will begin looking for a job soon. I am thinking after reading several post that I wont be able to hack it. Everyone seems to think its a hard, thankless, lowpaying, and at times abusive job. I loved my clinicals I loved the residents I did find it to be very fast paced and I can say I wouldnt like to work the 7-3 shift but thought I would be okay at the 3-11 shift. and many of you are right I thought the lnas that worked there didnt seem like they were happy to be there. I am generally a very upbeat happy person and I dont want to be miserable at work. Has anyone had any good experiances? What do you all think of home health care? I am the type of person that likes to work with people I am a great team player and love the atmosphere of working with other like minded people am I totally delusional? any thoughts would be appreciated.:uhoh3:

Give it a shot. Every workplace, no matter what kind of job, has its share of bull. I just think it's easy to blow things out of proportion as a CNA because you're already overworked. One rude comment can be a lot harder to brush off when you're super-stressed. Plus one crappy worker can throw off the whole team (see my rant from yesterday).

You'll find plenty of like-minded hard workers as well as plenty of people that you don't click with. It's a day to day thing. Yesterday I was sooooo completely stressed out I wanted to jump off a bridge. Today I worked with mostly the same people, only I had someone else and my douchebag partner from the day before was off today. It was 10000x better.

I have found that your co-workers can make a huge difference in how much you like your job. If you're upbeat, then that will probably rub off on them and keep them perked up too.

I wanted to work in a hospital so, so bad, but with no previous experience and being a SAHM for the last several years, that wasn't happenig. Working in a nursing home was the last thing I wanted to do, you have no idea. But now, that's where I am and I really like it. I am so thankful for the people I work with because that would have broken the deal, otherwise.

Give it a try and see if you like it. If not, apply somewhere else or in a different setting. Don't give up before you get started!

give it a try, ltc has high turnover, so no biggie if it's not for you. there's also alf, hospital, clinic, doc office, hh etc... some cna jobs are very easy, but those easy jobs aren't generally in ltc.

Please keep in mind that the number of good versus bad things that are posted on this site are not necessarily representative of the job at all times. Many people come here to vent.

I won't lie, there will be a lot of tough times ahead for you. BUT, you will also have some amazing moments that will put a smile on your face and make all of the bad times worth your while. We all have days where we feel like quitting, but we also have days that make us glad we chose this field.

I was having a TERRIBLE shift last week. Everything was going wrong, but then one of my hospice residents who had been unconscious for a week woke up for a few minutes and gave me the biggest smile I have ever seen. :) It gave me the energy I needed to get through the rest of this shift.
