I forgot a residents shower day, am I in trouble?

So at my facility, the night shift gets certain residents up for the morning shift. We know they did this coz one resident will be up and dressed while their room mate is still in pjs or gown.

So this one resident was dressed in a skirt and top when I came in and in her wheelchair. She's continent and can do for herself. I walk in the room multiple times to give her her breakfast and lunch and check in on if she needed anything. She's aware and alert so if she couldn't make it to bathroom or something, she'd tell me so. So anyway, I go through the day thinking all is well only to remember as I'm leaving that she was on my shower list.

Am i in big trouble?

Probably little trouble. You may get talked to about it, so be prepared to share what you've learned from the mistake. You'll check your shower list every day, right? You won't make assumptions? It was a mistake, and everyone makes mistakes.

Yes I will check! I feel like I'm the worst CNA :( it's been a hard month since I first started this career. I hope they don't think I suck :(

The first months of any new job are difficult. Hang in there.

I bet you will never make that mistake again right? That is what I was told when I forgot to put a knee brace on one of my patients. When it was pointed out to me by my supervisor she said to me, "I bet you wont make that mistake again as she smiled at me. As for missing a shower the nursing home I worked for before retiring the aids watch each other like hawks lol one would catch it and it would be known with in a hour that miss jones didn't get her shower and would mention it to the supervisor on my floor.

It didn't happen to me but have seen it happen. Another thing the cnas on my shift (7-3) would do is if one of my patents were going out for the day with family and I had one less then everbody else I would have to pick up a shower from another aid. I didn't mind just thought it was so god forbid someone else had less to do then another. In the end after years of working in nursing, I moved on to physical therepy in my site same nursing home, loved it!!! wished I didn't have to retire. long story short you wont get in trouble you just will never make that same mistake twice. I still think of my resident whos knee brace was forgotten lol
