  1. I am from nj and started me out at 12.00 hr when benefits kicked in it was taken out of your hourly rate depending what you chose I ended up making 10.00 a hour. worked full time and was union.
  2. I bet you will never make that mistake again right? That is what I was told when I forgot to put a knee brace on one of my patients. When it was pointed out to me by my supervisor she said to me, "I bet you wont make that mistake again as she smiled at me. As for missing a shower the nursing home I worked for before retiring the aids watch each other like hawks lol one would catch it and it would be known with in a hour that miss jones didn't get her shower and would mention it to the supervisor on my floor. It didn't happen to me but have seen it happen. Another thing the cnas on my shift (7-3) would do is if one of my patents were going out for the day with family and I had one less then everbody else I would have to pick up a shower from another aid. I didn't mind just thought it was so god forbid someone else had less to do then another. In the end after years of working in nursing, I moved on to physical therepy in my site same nursing home, loved it!!! wished I didn't have to retire. long story short you wont get in trouble you just will never make that same mistake twice. I still think of my resident whos knee brace was forgotten lol
  3. hi all, i have been lurking for a long time and felt compelled to talk about my expierence at my job. I got my cna cert back in june after going to collage to receive my cert. I am working at a nursing home currently, I have been here for 2 months now and though the teacher repeatly told us that how it is in class is not how it is in real life i am still wondering if this is the right cereer for me. my number one thing that bothers me most is lack of teamwork amoung the aides that work my floor. i work the 3-11 shift we have all the alzhimers patients on this floor. we normally run with 4 aides when nobody calls out or gets pulled to another floor. 15 patients per aide. heres what bothers me, the senior aide has been there for over 11 yrs and i was mentered by her. she does everything by the book and doesnt cut corners in any form. shes great. we start putting our people to bed after supper about 6:30 pm and her and i get done around 9ish. (we work indepentently from each other) we work hall (A) the other 2 aides work hall (B) somehow the b hall is done by 730pm and sits untill 10ock rounds start. I know she is fast because she has been there for many yrs like I said before. even she who has been there for years it takes untill 9pm to get all our people to bed and since i was taught by her i go by the book too! how come the other aides who have the same amount of people as us get done so early, the never ever offer to help if i or her are behind due to showers etc when i asked her this question she said figure it out! lol ok they arent doing pm care etc but why are they allowed to get away with it. the nurses see that they are sitting and only get up if one of their bells go off. it isnt fair, i say to my self if i just put people to bed wet and change them on there 10oclk rounds i would be done by 730 too but my concience wont allow me to do that!! any thoughts guys?
