Published

Hello everyone I am from Georgia the A to be exact. I obtained my Medical Assisting certification in 1999. I worked as a MA for about a yr. what I'd like to know is can a MA work inside of an Assisted Living facility? If not, where can I go to obtain a CNA certification....at a low cost and done within 4 wks. Any help would be great!! Thx in advance!

Specializes in ICU.

Your best bet would be to go through a local technical college. You would most likely be able to receive some form of financial aid which would help keep your out of pocket cost down.

You will definitely need a CNA cert. to work in LTC or hospital environment. Also, based on your s/n if you aspire to go to the nursing school many programs around the Atlanta area require CNA to apply.

Thanks for your advice! I've already been accepted into my nursing program. I don't remember any school that I applied to having this as a requirement for entry. CNA thru a technical school thru financial aid is going to be around $1000+++ I'd like to find a school or program like WIA which funds this certification for free!! Again, thanks for your comment.

If you are already accepted into ns some hospitals will hire you as a pct after your first semester of school. But start networking now. Even in the Atl. No need to get certified.

Specializes in Medical-Surgical, Pediatrics.

There are a few schools that I have heard about that were pretty good and they cost between $400-$575.

1. Life Solutions for Health, 4798 Flat Shoals Parkway , Decatur, Georgia 30034, 770-808-7788 (This one is not too far from me)

2. Afria Healthcare, 4319 Covington Highway Suite 309M, Decatur, GA 30035-1206 (I had an old coworker go through training with them and she liked it.

3. New Beginning CNA Training, 3895 Church Street, Clarkston Georgia, 30021 (Another coworker and one of my student's parent, I am a teacher, went through this program.)

I was looking into one of these program this summer but I didn't save up to attend plus I really didn't have the time. If they have a weekend hours become available, then I will try again.

I hope this helps!

Thanks, I found this out from a friend. The problem is am I only limited to that hospital?? Do they give licenses out to students?? My ultimate goal is to work independently for personal care or home care. I've seen that on hospital websites also that they will hire current students.

Great idea with the networking comment. Lord knows I'm trying to do that. :)

Yes!!! Thx! They have different sites online. The problem is when I call some of them their numbers were disconnected. I will look into these programs. Thanks so much. :)

I am so sorry about the numbers. I copied the numbers from the website. I am going to ask for the right number.

You're beginning nursing school this fall, correct?

After your first semester, hospitals hire nursing students as nurse techs or patient care techs! (:

Assisted living facilities often want a CNA for reimbursement purposes.

Oh someone already suggested... (: ooopsies.
