Cna-looking for employment in michigan

Published

Hello to all, I recently passed my CNA test and beyond excited. Got out and immediately started applying for employment (once my numbers were on the system).

I'm aware that jobs were not going to just drop out of the sky but many have said CNA was in high demand and it was in my benifit to take a sememster off from the nursing courses to complete the training. I AGREE. But with the economy and such I am having a hard time just getting a lead on a job. Some of the assisted nursing facility that I visited were not hiring me which puzzeled me a lot, cause before the training that's all you seen was employment for nursing assistants but you had to be certified (past employment traing in the field).

My statement or question to you all, is if you all know of any employment leads it would help me out alot. Also what pre-employment screening they may request that I can be taking care of during my job search? Also what is the average pay for a CNA.

Thanks in advance to all how respond

I don't know of any specific places, but I will say that LTC is your best bet in finding employment right now. It would also afford you the best experience that would be useful in your future nursing career.

Average CNA pay varies A LOT from state to state and facility to facility. Here's a link to a thread that may give you a better idea of what you would be making:

Good luck to you in your job search!

sorry but I don't know what a LTC is.....:lol2:

LTC=Long Term Care facility. Usually a nursing home

I was reading the link you sent and I see someone is from michigan....is there a way I could contact them via the board.

Thanks I thought that but just wasn't sure.

Where abouts in MI are you (general area)? I had a quick google and found a couple hospitals hiring. Or are you looking for LTC?

I am in the metro Detroit area...I googled Michigan hospitals and found a wonderful site which list almost all with links. I've applied with the ones within 25 miles of me.

Specializes in LTC, Rehab, CCU, Alzheimers, Med-Surg.

I have worked in the Grand Rapids, MI area. It is extremely difficult to get into a hospital over there, especially with little or no experience. My advice is to apply to every nursing home in the area, whether or not they say they are hiring. That's how I got my first job. Good luck!

Thanks, yes it's very hard to get in the hospital here in the metro Detroit area. I even have family that work in the major hospitals here and its still hard to get within the hospital

I'm having the same problem and I have a aunt who works for the DMC (Detroit Medial Center) that basically told me the hospitals won't hire you unless you have at least 6 months experience :uhoh3: I've been certified for a year and I've only had one interview but no jobs and the only leads I get come from the internet and most of them require experience!!!! How can I get experience if I can't get a JOB!? I'm still looking, (but not on the internet, I think its a waste of time and I know nobody who has ever been hired via online ) mostly in LTC facilities. Have you found anything yet?

I've had three different hospitals call me for interviews by applying online :)

As far as LTCs go it might be different though. I've had LTCs call me from mailing in applications and by coming in person.
