Have you ever felt like you did terrible on an interview?

Did you get really nervous and fidgety?

When asked an interview question did you give a dumb answer?

Did you ramble on and on and the things you were saying seemed to come out sounding stupid and off topic?

When asked if you have any questions did your mind go blank?

I did all of the above today and I feel like crying!!!

Have you have had a interview go bad and still recieve a job offer?

Also I told them that I would prefer if they didnt contact my present employer but they can contact the previous ones? Will that make me look bad?

God I hope the fact that they really need cnas over-ride that fact that I'm a total idiot!! :crying2:

My current job I actually cried during the interview when the DON was taking me on a tour and one of the cancer patients reminded me of a family member who passed away 6 months prior. I still got the job. There is always hope.

In the above post, I don't think that would be a terrible interview. I think it shows you are caring, which is a great quality to have.

But to answer the OP, we've all had terrible interviews. I interviewed earlier this year for a job that I really wanted (not a CNA position) however I did not take the time to practice or even think about what to say. After the interview I replayed it in my head and I realized how badly I performed.

She asked me to think of a time that I had a conflict with a coworker and how we resolved it. Of course, everyone has conflict at some point during the workday. I could not think of an example for the life of me so I just said that I had never had an issue with anyone.

She kept asking for examples but my mind would go blank. I had none to give her.

I answered some questions with some details about my personal life.

Needless to say, I did not get the job :( When I did interview for a CNA position I made sure to brush up on my interviewing skills & made a mental note in my head of how I wanted to answer certain questions. I listed what questions I wanted to ask at the end of the interview. The interview went so well that the DON told me she loved me & thought I would fit so well in their facility. She told me they were going to hold the position for me until I get my state results.

The only thing you can really do at this point is learn from the interview and make a conscious note of what you need to practice on. You will get other interviews & you will do great!

Good luck

Uhhh Yes and Yes to all the questions! I'm such a moron in interviews. I say the stupidest things and get really nervous and ramble on about nothing. LOL. I also sometimes break out in hives on my chest and neck....talk about embarassing! But who cares...It's normal to be nervous when your interviewed by someone you dont know. Good luck! :heartbeat

I think interviewers know the person on the other side of the table is nervous and will take that into consideration if you have good references and, or have experience.

Honestly, I am not nervous at interviews. Had one today in fact. :) I just tell the truth about past experiences and my aspirations.

Even if you don't get the job, more interviews equals more experience and you'll eventually feel more relaxed.

Good luck - Hope you get the job!

I'm not sure about asking them to not contact your previous employer. I too wonder about that on applications. As far as I know, by law, your previous employer can only state your Job Title and the years you worked.

I applied at several jobs before CNA school and thought my previous employer might have been giving me a bad reference.... SO...I had my husband call and pretend to be a potential employer. :coollook: Even though he asked several times the reason I left, my attendence, job performance, etc. They only told him my Job Title and the years I worked. :)

Yes to all of the above! I thought there was no way on earth that they were going to extend me an offer (CNA at a hospital). Well to make a long story short they did offer me the job but I declined it because I found a position I knew I would be happier at. :) So I guess what I'm saying is that you never know what will happen. They may extend you an offer or you may find something better. Either way best of luck and don't beat yourself up for one awkward interview!
