Where I work, there are 4 levels of CNA's. Your pay gets increased by 4% after reaching a new level. I'm currently in stage one though. Ultimately though, it'll depend on where you work
I'm in NC and its only 2. 4 is great.
Each level you reach you obtain the ability to do new skills which is great. Level ones do basic ADL's, level two can do EKG's, blood sugars, hemoccult testing, bladder scans. Level three in addition can do venipuncture. Level four is what they consider mentor status. Level fours take new CNA's under their wings, and act as preceptors during their orientation.
Thats sound nice, are you a CNA and where are you from?
Yes, I'm a CNA. I'm from VA

I went from a CNA I to a CNA II (the highest I can get) and I only got maybe a 60 cent increase. However, we do get yearly raises as long as you arrive on time, don't call out much, etc.
havehope. so its not worth it? where are you from?
Well, I guess any pay increase is good. But, you were talking about taking a course? I didn't have to take a course. She gave us maybe 3 sheets of pages of skills we were to get checked off on. Like, taking IVs out, take foleys out, etc. and once we got checked off on all the skills we moved up to a II. Weigh your options, if this class is going to cost a lot I wouldn't do it. If it doesn't I would go ahead and do it. If you decide to get another job of course a CNA II looks better than a I.
Yes, its a course. My former employee is a CNA 2 and she got started off with $13 hr. But I wonder if I can challenge the test, because the tution is $800? I know most of the stuff and can get the LPNs at my job to teach me the rest. I just want to move up, I'm tired of nursing homes and hospitals won't seem to call.
$800 that's crazy! Your employer should pay for that. I'd try challenging it, especially if you practice as a CNA now and know how to do skills.
