I will soon be getting my Maryland CNA license. MD licenses nursing students, like myself, as CNAs once we complete our Fundamentals course. (No licensing exam required.) I am also interested in getting my Washington DC CNA license. DC has a "certification by endorsement" if you have a license in another state. It remains unclear whether I have to take the DC licensing exam. Anyone know?

I am also in MD, and have endorsement in VA & DC. All you do is fill out an application, and send in a $15 fee to be licensed in DC. It will only take about 6 weeks to get your certificate back in the mail.
Thanks. So in the application where it asks for CNA test information did you leave it blank?
No, I filled it in b/c I was already a CNA before I started nursing school. But, I think the DC Nurse Aide Registry just needs proof that you are certified in MD, so I think I had to provide them with my CNA # and a copy of my MD certification..are you already certified in MD or are you still waiting for it?
My app is in process. The form asks for your out of state certificate and your test score on one of the national CNA tests. MD does not require a test -- for nursing students you just need to pass Fundamentals.
I guess you would have to wait until you have received your certification in MD before you apply for endorsement, b/c the app requires your CNA. #
