I just finished my first semester of nursing school & heard that if you completed a semester of fundamentals that you could be eligible to sit for the CNA exam. So, I went on the NY state dept of health website & checked the different routes/req & didn't see anything that related to nursing students who completed their first semester. So, basically I don't know if this is true or not. If anyone has any info in regards to this or who have sat for the exam after completeing yoru 1st semester of NS let me know.
Thanks

hey
i don't think you can be certified to work as a "certified" nursing assistant. but you can work as a PCA a patient care assistant in most hospitals. i'm not sure about long term care and if they would hire you because, mostly you need a certification to work in that type of setting. hope that it helps

It may be better to ask your nursing program if they can arrange this. Keep in mind that you may have a skills performance test, and you are not able to take the written until you pass the skills. Maybe there is an exception for nursing students, but am not sure.
