Hello! Does anyone here have experience with cloth diapers? Where do you get them, and is one brand known as the best?
Thanks!!
I have motherease that I used with my DD and I liked them pretty well. They didn't leak and they really helped with her diaper rash (she used disposables in day care). I also had some AIO's that I got and used when I was out but I didn't like hauling the yucky diapers around so I usually used disposables when I was out. I had the motherease one size that are adjustable and go from newborn to toddler size. They have some starter kits that are fairly priced and have pretty much what you need to get started.
I just used the generic "dime-store" variety cotton diapers with plastic pants 20 years ago with my now grown children. Worked fine. At night doubled up. Cost was a big factor back then, so couldn't afford the disposables. Remember soaking them in the toilet (be careful that you don't flush them, or you'll need the roto-rooter man!), washing them in HOT water and Ivory Snow, double rinsing them, them hanging them on the line to dry under the very hot sun.
I used a mix of cloth and disposables with my three boys.
I would recommend to invest in good quality cloth diapers - usually discount stores like Target and Walmart don't have the quality awesome cloth diapers that you can get nowadays. If you like the style of those at Walmart (prefolds, flats), think about getting chinese prefolds like these:

If you prefer fitteds (like Pampers but disposable), there are all kinds of things out there (and more on that green mountain site).
I tried all different kinds, there are lots of cool dipes out there. One sort of classic quality brand that has been around a while is here:

I always heard kissaluv's are good for newborns, but it's been 4 years since I've had a newborn!
Have fun shopping around!
PS - I never dunked/soaked little baby breastfed diapers in a wet pail or toilet, it's not necessary if you wash frequently/properly. You can google "how to wash cloth diapers" and you'll get lots of info & wet vs. dry pail, etc.
Stores such as Wal-mart, K-mart, and Target carries cloth diapers. I didn't used them for my son as a diaper but they make good burp clothes(I had a spit-up baby). I did however used them when he had a diaper rash. I don't think that they work very well. My son used to pee right through them but maybe that was b/c it wasn't by a diaper service like the other person has.
I used cloth diapers for my kids. I bought the brand called "snug to fit". They are adjustable, with snaps. I ordered them via the internet through a Canadian company (can't recall the name) even though at the time I was living in the US. It saved me a bundle because of the exchange (you pay in Canadian dollars). They worked out well, but there is commitment to the process. I rinsed and soaked diaper daily and washed at least everyday or every other day. Also it becomes more difficult to rid the diapers of the smell as the babies get older. I used baking soda when they were little and vinegar to rinse them when there skin could tolerate it. I have to say when I returned to work cloth diaper were no longer an option, I just couldn't keep up. Also, I found them difficult to use at night because they would wake up to be changed, making sleep training impossible. I would have used a diaper service if there had of been one in my area.
Some of our clients like a brand called fuzzy bunz (?sp). Some just buy enough to get started and the crafty ones use them for a pattern.
I just read that Fuzzi Bunz are one of ebays top 10 in the baby category... no surprise since I have bid on many Fuzzi Bunz auctions over the last few months and only won two of them! One of their nice features is a thin fleece layer next to baby's skin that is soft and feels dry. (moisture goes through it instead of being soaked up by it)
I use cloth. We mostly use hemp prefolds with a snap-on cover (no pins!), but we have some Re-Uz-'Ems all-in-ones too. I LOVE them!
I would never use the ones from Walmart or Target as anything but a burp cloth. They're too thin and you have to use pins and plastic pants.
I got mine from Katieskisses dot com. I paid $215 for three dozen infant size prefolds and two dozen toddler size, plus a dozen covers and a bag. The all-in-ones cost a bit more, but they're handy for outings. Just don't ever get the velcro kind. The velcro picks up fuzz in the wash and wears out really quickly. Go for snaps.

I bought them at Target, not to use as diapers (I'm one of those that think disposable diapers rank right up there with fire as concerns useful inventions) but for burpcloths. The reinforced ones work better than anything else I tried.
