I have noticed a lot of nursing students talking about their rotations in OB and LTC. Do all nursing students do the same rotations? This is my junior year and I am also in LTC and OB and I live in N. Virginia. Just wondering.
And if so, what will be our future clinicals, has anyone heard? The only rumors I have heard are MedSurg and Community.
This is my first time on this website and it is excellent. A lot of good information and it seems like very pleasant conversations.
Good luck everybody and keep studying and working on those concept maps :)

The way ours worked was passed on the way it was "approved" by the state board of nursing so we had a rehab, OB, Med Surg I, II, III (critical care), Psych, Community, Peds, Gero. I also did an accelerated BSN (11 months) so itt is probably not the best comparision- but i hope that helps!

We didn't do any LTC at all. We have Med-Surg, Advanced Med-Surg, Psych, OB, Peds, Critical Care (telemetry and ICU), and Management. We rotate out during some of the weeks to do things like Home Health, Hospice, OR, ER, Cancer Care, etc.

Here is our clinical rotations:
Fall 2003 I am on the Surgical floor. Some are on the medical floor and some are at a LTC
Spring 2004: Maternal New Born 1st 8 weeks, Med-surg 1 last 8 weeks
Fall 2004 Med Surg 2 and Pediatrics
Spring 2005 Psychosocial and Med-surg 3 Each of these from Spring 2004 thru to the end are 8 week clinicals.
Hope this helps! :)
Thanks guys that helped! I was more curious than anything. It is always nice to hear what other nursing students are "going through" Thanks for the replies.

WE did LTC first semester, MEd surg 2nd, OB/peds 3rd and med/surg agian 4th. We had 3 days in psych and we rotated out to ER, OR, dialysis, home health, oncology in 1st part of med/surg. This part of med/surg we go to ICU for 3 days and ER for 3 days. It's a 2 year ADN program.

We didn't do LTC either. I know we have a geriatrics rotation next year, i think, but i don't know if it's LTC or a hospital.
We did surgical 1st yr 2nd sem, 2nd yr is ob/peds/spec. care nursery and then medicine. 3rd yr is mental health and geriatrics/chronic care and 4th yr is management and our consolidation (where ever we want, pretty much, if we can get an RN to be our 'teacher')
As well, we have an 'intersession' for the month of may at the end of our 2nd and 3rd years ... those are done full time in the hospital, on a med and/or surg floor.

I've been in oncology & med-surg so far. Next year it will be pediatrics, obstetrics, psych & advanced med-surg. Oh & one day in the OR, one day at hospice & one day in the GI lab.
