Clinicals question

Published

Can anybody tell me how long we are in the program before clinicals start? I know that we do not dive straight into them. Here is my dilemma:

upon reading the immunization list, I, like many others, have not had the Hep-B series and it takes several months to complete. I am starting them today once I find out if I am immune or not. Do we have to have them done before CLINICALS or before classes start?

I'm so worried bc I have worked so hard to get here! :(

At my school we have to have the series completed before we start clinicals and in progress to register. We have not been given exact dates on when we will start clinicals but, our calendar has "clinical orientation" scheduled at the end of September about 4 weeks after we start classes.

I think every school is different. We were told to begin the series of Hep B when we turned in our applications to the program. All of our immunizations are supposed to be completed before we begin class. I am not sure when we start clinicals because we don't have our orientation until the 22nd.

If I were you I would contact your school to make sure you will be ok to start!

Lots of Luck!

Thanks so much for your responses guys! I justw anted to make sure I was not alone in this boat!

Ok, so where does one go to get the Hep-B immunization? My Dr's office and another one I called both said they only administer them to children....

That's strange; the vaccine is the same for both adults/children aside from the site of administration. I got mine at a local clinic.

Though before you get the vaccine series started, I'd make sure what the school is requiring you to do. My school states specifically for us to have all three shots completed prior to the first day of classes or our registration would be canceled.

Had the same problem finding the vaccine. I called our local hospital and they told me which clinic in the area had it. GL! Oh and I've already started clinicals and won't get my final Hep B until October.

We started clinicals 3 weeks after school started, but I am in an accelerated program. However, one of my classmates did some kind of "express/fast track" Hep series...not sure what it was, but if you ask your doc, I'm sure they'll know! HTH

I got mine from my doctor but our local health department does it . . . for a small fee.

Thanks for all your help guys! I don't know what I'd do without this forum

Corkybabe - does your school have a Student Clinic or Health Care? I got my shots through the school.
