Clinicals at CHOA with something on your background?

U.S.A. Georgia

Hi everyone, I attended my second nursing info. session today for GPC, whose ADN program I will be applying to. We were told you may be cleared for clinicals at all the other hospitals, but when you get to CHOA you may be red-flagged. Has anyone been able to do clinicals there with something on your background check? Are they looking for a crystal clear background? This is worrisome to me, because that's a lot of work and money if I get to the last semester and can't complete Peds. I have nothing violent of any kind on there, nothing involving children, but there are some old things on my record. Thanks for any input!

Hey! I meant to attend the info session yesterday but couldn't make it. I can't answer your question. If I were you I would ask (moderator edit of name). She is very good about answering those kinds of questions and will be very honest with her answer. Don't give up! Also, did they state the minimum requirements for the teas? That was my main reason to attend. I want to know what I need to get to be considered for the program. Thanks for any info u may be able to provide!

Thanks for the tip! I will look up (moderator edit of name). Is she one of the instructors? She said for the TEAS the minimum requirement is a 63 for your total adjusted score, a 63 in Math, and a 63 in Reading. She said they don't look at Science by itself, and that's usually the one students get the lowest score on. She also said to be competitive you need to get 65 on the Total adjusted, Reading and Math. It was very helpful to go to it - there are quite a few more coming up. Good luck to you! When are you planning to take the TEAS? I'm trying to decide when to take it, myself. I would really like to wait until the semester's over so I can focus on studying only for that, but there aren't any test dates listed for mid-December or January.

I think you should talk with the admission counselors or someone directly in the nursing staff instead of looking for answers on here or elsewhere..this is a situation that you would need to get the info directly from the people involved. While that's good your record isn't violent or the charges have nothing to do w/children I don't think that would necessarily mean a free/clean path. Theft, drug charges, etc all those can play a role and CHOA is going to make their own determination - not your school - about who they let in for clinical. Talk to your school and if possible find out exactly who at CHOA works w/the schools/clinical rotations and contact them..am not sure I would rely just one your school for the info.

Thanks so much for the teas info!!! She is actually the director of the program and most likely was the one to give the presentation yesterday. She have mine when I went last year. she gave her email at the one I went to and encouraged anyone to email her w any questions or concerns they may have. U can do that OR make an appointment with one of the nursing advisors and they will be able to help and ease your fears. Ideally I want to take it beginning of January. Because like u I want to finish ap2 and have a solid month to study w no distractions. I called ati and they said not to worry that as soon as the schools provide them w the dates that's when they list them. She also said we could call mercer to see what date they plan to offer in January. I check it often bc that has me a bit worried. Sounds like we are in the same boat. Glad I'm not alone! Keep me posted on what u learn and I'll do the same!
