Clinical Assignments in AZ

Hello everyone! Does anyone know what the clinical location assignment process is like at nursing schools in AZ? Do you get to pick a hospital, do they just assign you, do you get to put down preferences, etc.? I would love any info, especially if you are in the nursing program at ASU because that is where I will be attending.

Thanks!

Why don't you ASK ASU? Seems like the most direct approach.

Because that would require talking to real person on the phone instead of behind a keyboard.

In a couple years it will be " I need to interview a nurse. Can someone answer these 30 questions in detail. The assignment is due in an hour?"

I have asked ASU, I didn't receive a response. That's why I came here. They don't share that information because they consider their clinical sites confidential. They don't share their sites with the general public or the process of placement.

From AZ, I don't attend ASU, but familiar with even their clinicals. The schools get the clinical sites at whatever facilities they can get each and every semester, hence why no one responded to you at ASU, they can't tell you where the clinical site will be until just before that semester starts.

All nursing schools in the area are fighting for clinical sites each semester and there is lots of nursing schools in the greater Phoenix area. Sometimes it's day shift, once in a blue moon it's night shift. Sometimes you'll be in Gilbert, other times Surprise (or choose a random city with a facility). Usually they get 3-4 clinical sites for each cohort at different facilities, whoever registers first gets that clinical site. You register late each semester, you get the farthest location from you usually.

Just like MiladyMalarkey said, it changes every semester, so they can't give you an answer. Try posting in the AZ thread (click on U.S. at the top and scroll down to Arizona) and you may get some replies from ASU students.

Hey there, I did my undergrad at ASU and also looked into their nursing program, so I KNOW they suck with responding haha and they will virtually tell you NO info about the program unless you make an appointment which there is always a wait for.

A close family member of mine is a nursing instructor at an AZ school and there is absolutely zero rhyme or reason to where you are put at clinicals. Source: I sat in their office when they were assigning placements one day and watched names literally be dragged from one side of the screen without looking to a folder with the hospital name on it. It changes with every rotation and can also be changed last minute with little warning. It does not matter where you live, your family/child situation, your means of transportation, etc. Things may change slightly school to school, but so far this is the same process for my nursing school in California and sounds the same for every school I've heard of in AZ. My school tries to keep clinical groups together, so the goal is for a group of 8 students to have the same placements together throughout.

From my understanding, faculty is already handling so much and if they also had to deal with some sort of bidding system for students to be placed where they wanted, they would all pull their hair out. Lol hope that helps!
