Cleveland Clinic VS University Hospital

Published

Im sorry if this has been posted multiple times, I searched the thread and could only find one from a couple years ago.

What are your opinions on working at the Cleveland clinic Vs UH? I just found out I passed my nclex RN (whoooo) and wanted opinions before I started applying to new grad positions.

I heard with the Cleveland clinic you get such a great experience & they teach you so much. Also the benefits are better than UH but I heard the staff is treated poorly and the pay isn't the greatest.

on the other hand I heard UH treats their employees better and the pay is better but benefits suck.

I really wanted to apply to metro but I heard they don't accept new grads and metro hasn't had the greatest rep these days 👀

Any opinions on any hospital would be greatly appreciated :-)

I worked as an NA2 at UH in nursing school and I was treated like garbage when it came time to apply to RN jobs. HR is super slow there as well. Yes, UH is more nurse friendly. It really depends what you want to see and what area you want to work in. If you want high acuity you go to the clinic. If you want to work in cardiology (like me) you go to the clinic. If you want trauma/ER you go to metro.

My floor has a new nurse who didn't do well in the CICU as a new grad so she was sent up to our floor. Our sister unit has the same thing as well only difference is that nurse requested to go to a stepdown.

High acuity go to the clinic? Really? Many would say UH main campus ICUs have just as high acuity as CCF main campus. Mainly due to the fact that inner city people tend to seek care less frequently, in which case they are far sicker than average when they do come in and these types of patients tend to go to CMC over CCF.

UH doesnt have pt's coming from all over the country, the clinic does (especially the ICUs). Ive been to UH's CICU and the clinic's CICU....it isnt even close. CCF also has 6 CVICU's (whereas at UH they go to the SICU). I will say the MICU at UH is phenomenal.

Dont have people coming from all over the country? Hmmm. You sure about that?

There is more celebrity traffic at CCF. That doesn't mean they are any sicker. They have a totally different business model.

Regarding CVICUs at CCF, that's their forte. Nobody argues that. You must be related to Toby.

Im surprised by your comment. You say you have worked for all 3. What floor did you work on at CCF? What floor do you work on at UH?

Not sure where you get the celebrity traffic from. I think that is grossly overstated in general. I have however taken care of everyday people, from the poor to the more affluent.

I don't reveal where I've worked.

Based on past posts it looks like ER. Anyways, Im not knocking UH. Its not a bad hospital and its definitely a nurse friendly hospital. The point is you are going to have bad experiences every where, no one hospital system is perfect.

Perhaps you've heard the expression "the fish rots from the head?" Toby has created a culture where nurses have no say and are expendable. Why do CCF nurses wear all white? Because Toby says that's what the uniforms will be in spite of every Clinic nurse I know not liking all white. Gets dirty too easy. At Metro, on the other hand, the nurses voted on their uniforms. Totally different culture. Some people prefer a totalitarian regime. The majority, however, prefer a democratic system. And free speech. Just not here.

I can agree with that. I did like that UH wore the navy blue scrubs (The RNs voted on it as well) and I did like the black scrubs at metro. VA has a different scrub color too but it varies. I also do not like the all white (wore enough all white uniforms when I was in the Navy).

Before the black uniforms we had no say on ours and wore white also. Why? Because they said so. No place is perfect, they all have their flaws. Even in some of your other posts there seems to be issues where you are.

What are you talking about?

You brought up white uniforms at the clinic and the nurses had no say, we had no say in our uniforms there prior to that and the only reason they let us vote was because it was getting close to

Magnet recert and they want the masses to be happy.

Just saying no where is perfect.

And in your other posts on other boards you seem to be complaining about this that and the other.
