Class Scheduling..???

Nursing Students General Students

Hi Everyone,

I have a question about class scheduling. I am looking down the road and trying to see what classes I am going each semester. I work fulltime and have a family, so I want to keep to a max of 2 or maybe 3 classes per (depending if the class has a lab or not)

Once I get past all of the pre-reqs and core reqs, I have no idea what to expect in the course as far as time, and if you can schedule them together or not etc... For example the following are the required Nursing classes:

Intro to Professional Nursing 1

Intro to Professional Nursing 2

Intro to Nursing Sciene

Nursing Science

Nursing Science 2

Nursing Science 3

Nursing Science 4

Group Communications Seminar 1

Group Communications Seminar 2

Group Communications Seminar 3

Research Seminar

Leadership in Nursing

I know that the courses need to be taken in succession, so can I take more than one per semester.?? I.E Intro to Nursing & Nursing Science 1 ..etc..??

Can someone give me an idea of how I could set these up??

I have not met with the Nursing Dept chairperson, or anyone from the department yet. I am working on the pre-reqs now.

Thanks in advance

Alan

Hi Alan,

All schools are different so I would take a look in your course catalog and see what is a pre-req. to what. ie. is Intro 1 a pre-req. to Nursing Science 1. The way it looks from what you posted perhaps Intro to Nrsg. is a class lecture where as Nursing Sci. is your lab or clinical. Don't know. Like I said, all schools are different. If you can, check around with other students and see what they have heard or experienced themselves about these classes.

Another good idea is to see if any of these are offered in the summer session, ie. your Communications and Research very well could be offered in the summer too. That would be a good way to break up your classes so you are not taking too many in the Fall and Spring semester.

Good Luck,

You should definitely meet with someone in the department. Like Colleen said, all schools are different. Anything we tell you here is going to be based on our own personal experiences. For instance, my school has a set schedule for each semester. I don't have any choice as to when I take certain classes.

Good luck.

I just kind of threw it out there to see what other peoples experiences are / were...

Thx

My school is the same as Todd's. You have to take it in a set order. I think most schools are that way. So you may not have they choice to take only two classes a semester during nursing school, you may have to take 4. Or you may only take one class that's a full load in itself. Every school is different.
