My roommate also wants to be a nurse but doesnt want to wait for clinicals, is the waiting list shorter for LPN? also where do you get an LPN, i dont know of any schools here that give it, its an 18 month program right?? How long is your waitlist at raymond walters for clinicals? At cstate they said around 18months before you could even get in clinicals! Have you thought of doing a BSN?

Okay, not really but I heard about you from the Director of Nursing at Mount St. Joe's last week! I live in Florence, Ky. I have an MBA and want to go to back to school to be a nurse. I found all the schools in the area had long waiting lists too. Someone recommended Mount St. Joes so I called to check it out. I asked "what does the typical class look like?" The director told me that had a wide variety of ages including a 22 year old that just graduated from college not long ago in this years class!!! Wow! Imagine my surprise when I saw a post from you on here! Great site. I hope to start next May. I haven't had anatomy & physiology yet so I'm working on getting that done first.

I was considering going to a two-year program at Gateway Community College in northern KY to get an ADN but missed the deadline for the NET test (pre-entrance exam). They're booked till Aug of 2006. At Mount St. Joe's I'll be able to start next May and still finish at the same time I would have at Gateway only with an MN instead of an ADN. I think that's terrific. (Just wish it didn't cost so much.) I'm still paying off old student loans and don't look forward to more. I'm trying to look at it as an investment in my future.

Let me know what you think of Mt. St. Joe's. How's your first couple of weeks been so far?

I'm pretty sure I'm going to do the Accelerated RN program at the Univ. of Cincinnati. I haven't even started on my prereqs yet but probably will this summer or fall. I have a bachelor's degree from UC (1991, yikes I'm old!) so going back to UC will be old hat.

Galaxy, I also looked at the MN program at Mt St Joe but decided it was too expensive. I talked at length witht he director a couple of months ago, she was really great and it seem like a really great program.

As a side question: anyone know where I can get a job in healthcar without ever having working in the field? I'm willing to do just about anything. My background is customer service so I was hoping for a nibble when I applied for unit coordinator jobs but so far no response. :o

I am in the MN program as well!! let me tell you its such a great program but it is expensive!!!!!!!!!!!!! i rationalize it out by saying that if i had gone the ADN route id still be waiting for clinicals while if i took the MN route id be donw and working off the debt before i would even get into clinicals at any of the ADN programs....i also couldnt get any more fin aid for another bachelors...no more for me...i love my program but the only downside is the money...i plan to sign on somewhere with loan forgiveness so that i can pay off my debt!!!

You're silly. :p I'm in nursing school right now and at 19, I'm definitely a minority age group wise. Most people are in their late 20s early 30s. We have a handful that are in their 40s and 50s as well. So trust me, you'll fit in just fine. :)

The UC accelerated pathway program was great. I was there six years ago, when we had to do 25 credit hours/quarter (If you didn't go postal first, you graduated).

Just watch certain faculty members--don't let them indoctrinate you into the "ivory towers" of nursing academia. When seeking career advice, go to your clinical faculty first.

I'd still recommend it.

It's true you'll make a little more money, but the respect---hmmm, let me know where you get that...

Anyone going to or have gone through the LPN program at Great Oaks? I enrolled for this semester at Cincinnati State to finish a few pre-reqs and get my name on the clinical list BUT do I want to wait 18 to 24 months to begin clinicals????? I'm thinking if I do Great Oaks for a yer, get my LPN, work, then go back to Cincinnati State for my LPN the wait is only about 6 mos before clinicals...any thoughts?
