Cincinnati State Technical College-- Has anyone ever attended?

U.S.A. Ohio

Has anyone graduated from their nursing program? I am finding none of the advisors know what the heck they're talking about.

They now took over Scarlet Oaks/Great Oaks LPN program. I was going to finish there and I have all of these pre-reqs to do, and have to wait until they're completed to even enroll into the LPN program, which I find out probably won't be until Novemeber of next year, and it will Late summer or 2011 when I graduate!

I was at Bohecker College and only have two terms to go until I have my LPN. I'm just nervous because I hear they're losing accrediation. Apparently I can still sit for my NCLEX and other LPN-RN programs will still recognize my license, just not classes. I'm so confused on which route to go. I definitely will NOT do the bridge at Bohecker because I want to get my BSN and will not be able to if they lose accrediation.

Anyone have any experience with C-State, or any advice in general lol:specs:

Hey I was looking into that program at cincinnati state for lpn. I live in fairfield any info you will have will help me out a lot! thanks

I am also looking into the LPN program at cincinnati state and then go for my RN there too. The only problem I am having is figuring out how to get onto the waitlist I have emailed my advisor but go figure no answer as of right now! I figured I would just work on the basic general ed classes but the sooner I get onto the waitlist the better if someone could help with this i would greatly appreciate it!

Hello,

In response to RubyJean, I posted quite a bit of info already. If you have any specific questions, please let me know, and I'd be happy to answer them.

PinkySam, there is no waitlist for the LPN program. Several of my classmates are working on the general ed courses for the RN program while earning their LPNs. If you are planning to earn the LPN first, you do not need to be on the RN waitlist. It is the understanding of my class that you "skip" the waiting list for the RN program by getting your LPN first. However, you do have to have 1000 hours of work experience as a LPN to apply for the RN program at Cincy State. I am planning to earn my LPN through them and then work on my RN online through a different school.

I was just admitted into the PN program at Cinci State. This summer I am taking the Informatics class and once I complete my A&P 2 class (at another college) they will waive my BIO requirement. I will then have all pre/co-req's completed! My question is, how many days per week do you attend class/clinical when you only have the actual PN courses to complete--I'm sure it probably varies per term? I'm very close to Diamond Oaks campus and would love to take classes there but they are only offered during evenings and that's the only time I have with my son since he is school-age and attends school during the day. Therefore, I will be attending the day program at Scarlett Oaks. Another question is, are you locked into an Oaks location once you choose? For example, can I take the first term of PN classes (there are only 2 I will need) in the evenings at Diamond Oaks then switch to the day program at Scarlett Oaks for the remainder terms? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks :)

Oh, I also meant to ask if there was a thread just for Cinci State PN students? Sure would make it easier to find and research info on the program without searching all over. If so, please let me know how to find it.

Thanks :)

As far as the waitlist, no one can tell you how long it is. Cincinnati State is switching from quarters to semesters in 2012, and they have no idea whether they will continue admitting nursing students to clinicals twice a year, or reduce it to once a year. Therefore, no one can really tell you when you will start because no one knows. And yes, LPN's bump up to the top, but if you won't get everything done until 2012, who knows when you will start.

It used to be around 2 years. But if they admit students once a year beginning in 2012, then it will be at least 2 years, if not more.

UC Raymond Walters wait list is 2 years if you want to do your RN there. Their wait list will not be affected by the semester transition. They also offer LPN-RN and the cost is pretty much the same. Plus you can do your BSN right after if you wanted to.

NvrGivNUp,

Hello. Well, I am in the evening program at the Live Oaks campus. Your schedule does vary by term, and if you don't have to take the Bio courses, you will spend a LOT less time in class/labs than your classmates who do. I did not have to take the Bio courses because I had taken A & P 1,2,and 3. First term, I only went three nights a week. Second term, I had to go all four evenings but one evening was clinical, one was skills lab, the other two were lecture. Third term, I had to go all four evenings -- two were clinicals, one was lab, one lecture. We are entering fourth term, and clinicals will be Monday and Tuesday evenings from 5:30-9:30, lecture Wednesday and Thursday from 5:30-7:30. You will rarely stay until 10:00 PM on lecture nights, well depending on your instructor.

As for switching campuses, we were told that under NO circumstances would we be allowed to change from one campus to another without starting the whole program over again. However, we have had one student in our class who did switch from the Live evening program to Scarlett day program. I don't know how she managed to get it done because another classmate asked to transfer and was denied. At any rate, good luck and I think you'll enjoy the program.

Hi Heavenly,

Would you please let me know from where you completed your A&P 1,2,3. I'n new in town, dont know any schools from where I can A&P to complete pre-requite for admission, if you can recommend any school that I can attend part time basis in evening that will be great.

Thanks in Advance

Hello everybody

I have been going back and forth between all the available RN programs in the Cincinnati/Dayton area and I think am going to try Cincinnati State Tech.

Just got (after 2 weeks waiting time) an e-mail from the nursing coordinator at RWC - after prereq you get on the waiting list (which is 2 years); but then it is another 2 years after you start your clinicals until you actually graduate - last I checked, this was supposed to be an ADN, not a BSN degree...

What about Clark State Community College - their wait time is 1.5 years?

Any tips for taking the Compass placement test at Cincinnati State? Was the math really hard? Is the witing really going to be an Essay - how much time you have - how many words?

One more question - I still have not made up my mind whther I should go the

STNA or LPN route? I would love to work at a hospital one day - that's why I was leaning more towards the STNA route? Any advise? Please?

I am completely new to medical/health care field and any info will be greatly appreciated?

I did fine on the compass without studying in advance. Depending on your math skills, you may want to brush up on algebra skills as they are needed for the test.

The STNA course is a requirement for full admission into the PNC (LPN) program at Cinci State. They offer the class and financial aid will cover it; however, I took it elsewhere due to scheduling issues. I'd say go ahead and get your compass testing done and apply for the PNC program. Then take your STNA course and any DE courses you may need depending on your compass scores. Also, get your shots done right away as this can delay you from getting into a cohort placement when fully admitted--the physical and two step ppd is required before you can be admitted into the STNA course. I'd urge you to attend a PNC information session so you will be provided with all the information you need.

I've done STNA work for years and I would not limit myself to that if I were you. You can have plenty of time to work as an STNA while getting through the PNC program to gain experience and see how you like that position; however, I would still pursue becoming a LPN as you can always bridge that to RN and/or BSN.

HTH... if you have anymore questions, I'd be happy to answer them as best as I can. I've completed all my pre-req's and co-req's, shots, physical, background checks, and currently just sitting and waiting on my cohort placement for my actual PNC courses.

nvRgivNup,

Thank you - I will schedule the physical today - I was only wating to meet with an adviser first - but I will go ahead and do it then.

How long did it take you to complete your prereq's? Are you coming just fresh out of high school? In my case - it has been over 21 years, so I know I will have to take at least Biology and Chemistry...

Also, I will soon be unemployed, so my plan is to not to go back to work for a while (hopefully the double dip we are in, will start to rise or at least flatten out by then), study full time and get as far as I possibly can into the RN program; then start working as a STNA or LPN to gain some experience and perspective.

Are you planning on going for RN?

Thank you ALL for any feedback/suggestions.:)

I am so happy I found this website....

Shanfuturenurse,

Did you go through STNA or LPN as a prerequisite to get on the RN waiting list? Is it one the same list and LPNs get bumped to the top if you decide to the STNA route?

Somebody else posted that if you go LPN first, you will need ot have 1000 hours of work as an LPN first before you could proceed? Is that true?

How are your clinicals going? When will be graduating? And do you hear anything about employment prospects as an RN?

Form everything I have read and heard so far, the health care is not immune from the recession we are currently in...I am just hoping that by the time I get done with this major life change, employment prospects will look much better.

Thank you for any info or insight you might be able share.
