Does anyone, or has anyone worked in the ED at Cincinnati Childrens? I had an aweful interview experience with their ED. I was drilled about myself and my experiences, but was not told about the unit, the way it runs, how many beds are in the ED...was not able to see the unit. Then after, the manager told me that all that was available was straight night shifts, she walked me out of the office and showed me to my car. I have an interview with another department this week. I don't want to give up on Children's, but after that interview, I feel like I should just stay where I'm at right now.

If anyone has any insight or advice that would be great.:heartbeat

Hi! I just started at Cinci Children's on Monday. I had a great interview experience. The first week of orientation everyone has been very welcoming. Don't loose hope because it is a great hospital to work for. I'm sure the interview in the other department will go much better!! Good luck!

Hi! I just started at cinci children's on monday. I didn't interview in the ED, so I don't know if that is normal or not for that department. The interview and hiring process went pretty well for me. Orientation this past week has been good, everyone has been very welcoming. It is a great hospital and I wouldn't give up hope if this is what you want. Go to other department and hopefully it will go much better!! Good Luck!

I have my next interview with a cardiac step-down unit. I am an ER nurse currently, but have experience in critical care and cardiac step-down. The interview is late in the afternoon, so I hope that the nurse manager does not hurry through it because she wants to go home for the day. Can I ask what area you are in? What kinds of shifts do you work? I have a friend that works in their psychiatry department and loves it. I do know that I would not be able to work in psych, but would love the opportunity to work for Children's. Please keep in touch.

I will be working on the Bone and Marrow Transplant Unit. It is a rotating shift of 3 weeks pm and 3 weeks am. From what I hear that is pretty normal for that unit. My interview was in the morning and I toured the entire Hem/Onc floor. She talked about how each part, inpatient, outpatient, and BMT worked together and how I would be trained for all parts. This is my first job and really my first interview I had been through. When I left I was very surprised at how easy it was, I felt as though she hadn't asked me very much. On my way home I realized that she hadn't gotten a lot of information out of me but it was more in the form of a conversation. I was very comfortable and liked the style of interview. She actually got a LOT of information from you, you just weren't aware she was doing it. Skillful interviewers are able to elicit information very casually in a converstaional way that puts the interviewee totally at ease so they forget that they're actually being interviewed. My teaching style is like that, conversational and casual but full of very important concepts. Trust me when I say that you would not be starting work on the BMT unit if the interviewer didn't have a good idea of who you are and how you tick.

Thank you for your comment. I have no doubt that she got a ton of information from me. We talked for what I thought was a lot of time. I was just so surprised at how it was done and I didn't even notice it until after I had left and reflected on it.

I'm glad to hear nurses that say they are happy at CCH. My grandaughter was there for a number of mos and I was very impressed with the level of skill and professionality of the staff.(as an old RN I'm very tough to impress). In addition the facillity seemed to go out of its way to be friendly to families and visitors.I suprised to hear your interview was so abrupt- with my limited experience with the hospital I didn't feel that was thier style. I wish the hospital I work for was half as user friendly as CCH. If I lived nearer it would be my first choice of employer.

I am considering CCH for the future. I work in ICU and it is just a lot of stress for me right now. I am looking at some other options though. My sister works in the ED and likes it as well as my sister in law.

I was considering psych though..........I just know I want to be in acute care and I want to work 7-3's part time. I guess we shall see. Any who , keep up updated on how your next interview goes.

I currently work at Cincinnati Children's, although not in the ED, and can not say how much I love. I started as a new grad here 2 years ago and my entire experience has been amazing. It really is a great hospital to work at, so don't give up on it! We are currently building a new ED in the suburbs so there are a lot of changes going on in our ED, perhaps that was part of it?
