Has anyone found the application to apply for the nursing externship at CHOP yet? I know the applications usually come out around this time but I can't seem to find it anywhere. If someone could help me out i'd really appreciate it!

Does anyone know how many externs they'll hire per specialty (med-surg, critical care, etc.)?

Good question... I know they take about 50 in total, so many like 10-15 per specialty? That's my guess. I think 100-150 of us interviewed.

To anyone who got offered a position, congrats! And did you find out what units you'll be working on yet? I'm dying to know mine.

Yes congrats to you and everyone else! I have not heard what units I will be on yet, but I'm really excited to find out. Do you know when we might hear?

No, unfortunately I have no idea, that's why I decided to post. Hopefully soon though!!

I know this post is a year old but I was wondering if those of you who did interview could offer any advice!

Hey! I was an extern this past summer. The interview process was actually pretty easy and they made you feel very comfortable. They gathered everyone in a room and gave an overview of the program and what to expect first. They then, I believe randomly, passed out our resumes to representatives from each unit and then you interviewed with the person who had your resume. I was interviewed by the NICU, which is where I externed and still work. I was given a quick tour of the unit and then asked about 5 questions I believe and that was all. Everyone was SO nice and so helpful and really made you feel welcomed and were available for any needed help. Just be yourself, be confident and know the basics, strengths/weaknesses, what you'd bring to CHOP, etc. I hope this helps! Congrats!

Thanks for your help! I'm happy to say I was offered a position! Throughout your extern experience did they rotate you through other departments? And did you work both night and day shifts?

Congrats! We rotated through 2 units and you are able to work day and night shifts and an combination of 8s/12s. It's unit preference. Typically you'll work 12s rotating but some units only have you work days.
