Anyone on this forum accept a position to the NICCU?

Hi!

I am moving cross country at the end of the summer to start the residency program on 6W! I was wondering if anyone had any advice on safe neighborhoods that have an easy commute to the hospital and have a lot of fun things to do around them (hiking, restaurants, parks, etc.). Congrats to everyone else who has been hired!

Congrats to you!! You will enjoy SoCal its my home (:

Now CHLA is in a busier part of LA. The area around is more crowded than other areas in LA, but LA in general is always crowded.

The main freeway you would take would be the 101 which is always traffic and busy.

There is an area near CHLA which Glendale, CA. It is a safe area in my opinion, a 15-20 min. commute side street and there is The Americana (a popular mall), tons of food, and you can drive another 25-30 min. and be hiking in AltaDena/Pasadena, which is where more food and stuff is around.

Hope that helps!

Hi pedsrn930 congrats to you as well! Looking forward to meeting you at the start of Residency! Glendale is a nice place to live. It's probably like 15 minutes from CHLA, near Griffith Park which has nice hiking trails and tons of things to do. There is the Glendale Galleria and also the Americana great places to shop and eat. I also know Los Feliz is right near the hospital as well but don't know much about things to do in that area!

SoCalNurse2Be looks like we are on the same page! :)

Hello. Anyone has gone to HR to sign any paperwork yet? what are we signing?

How about the physical? Do they take blood? they told me they would do a drug and alcohol test and a TB test (I hate needles!)

Do they make you lift weights and do ergonomics tests?

Yes!

You are first at Employee Health doing urine drug test, vision test, TB test.

You are also submitting all your paperwork (immunizations, etc).

Then the physical assessment of lifting 2 heavy weights using proper body mechanics, doing a standard physical (lungs, vision, pain, back problems, etc).

For HR you are signing your contract, your W-4, you'll see your job description/pay rate for your unit, you get a handbook, you have a math test (calculations for peds. dosage), you're signing like a lot of paperwork, HIPPA, etc.

It took me about 2 hours to complete (1 hr at Employee Health & HR).

Hope that helps!
