Hello Nursing World,

I am a chiropractor who will be entering the nursing program, at Wayland Baptist University, in 2 weeks. I do have some concerns about this program, which in the hopes that someone out there will give me some feedback.

Lets start with the positive aspects:

1) I dont mind the clinical travelling

2) I dont mind the cost of tuition ($45T)

3) Get away from the California craziness, in the aspect of the nursing schools.

Now for the concerns:

1) What is the success rate of this program? I dont want to give all my money and in the end I will get screwed. Their refund policily is not as accomodating.

2) I understand that this school holds Christian type values. Will they help you or be accomodating when it comes to assistance in classes that students may have trouble in or are you just a number (or money) to them?

3) I would like to hear from students who have been through this program - any other thoughts you may have. Please be honest. Should I go to this school or not.

Thanks

DGF

I too am starting the 15th. Information seems minimal from both parties. However, I have to get a BSN and this looks to be the fastest route so far. The university doesnt seem to have any bad PR that I have found. It is merely another hoop to jump through. I guess we are all going to be able to make a more educated decision soon. I am curious to how many are going to be in the class I heard 18 then 150, but it seems everyone had a pile of extra prereq's.

Hey DrWG

Thanks for your response to my thread.

I did speak to someone in the busines office in Wayland this AM. It appears that our tuition of 45T is non-refundable after the end of the second term. So which leads to me ask -- if anything that would or may possibly hinder us to from continuing on, are we screwed of $45T? I think that is not fair. They should refund the unused portion of our tuition - if that the case may be.

The person in the business office stated that they may amend this policy. After careful thinking and praying, I may not be attend the program if their refund policy is set in stone. I dont mind how rigourous or non-rigourous the program may be - I just dont wish to be out $45T that I borrowed and will pay for nothing.

I may see you in orientation. If I do come, please say come and say hi to me. I have a practice in N. Hollywood CA.

Any more thoughts from you will be appreciated.

Thanks again

Wayland appears to have a good reputation, I doubt that would risk the backlash of keeping money for services not provided. In addition, MAL would sink. I will be there on Monday starting a quality program or getting a refund. Either way, I think I would regret not taking the chance. I have been very fortunate in my practice however in order to survive I think we all must adapt. MAL has given us an opportunity to continue practicing while we jump through the BSN hoops. We will see!

Updates on the Wayland Baptist online nursing??? I missed the last start and hoping to get started next semester. However, I have heard some troubling information about the program through the grapevine. The program is much longer than I was lead to believe and the required clinical hours are more than if you went anywhere else. Also, the FAQ section for Wayland Baptist says clinicals are in Dallas, but the first class has been going to San Antonio?? Lastly, I was told the ENTIRE program was 45K, that does not appear to be the case. If anyone is currently in the program or can answer factually, I would appreciate your response ASAP because I am supposed to pay.

They let you pay per semester, The program is fine, but just like chiropractic school you have hoops to jump through. THe FAQ page never said the program would be in dallas. (never, i have been with MAL since before the switch to WBU from Hardin simmons. I am in the first class and it never said that). The teachers have been great. THey realize we know a lot (dont think you know it all, because chiropractic school didn't teach you a lot compared to this) and the instructors have given us a lot of slack. They cut out a lot of busy work. I think the program has been everything I was promised and things are going well.

I am glad to hear that. I am a Chiropractor in MD and I am considering starting the onine BSN program

in February. Can you tell me how challenging the curriculum has been? Do you find it manageable while

working full time? Can you also tell me about clinical hour requirements and realistically how much time you

have to travel down to Texas? I didn't see much about clinical hours in the online info and was curious

if there was an option to do your clinical hours in your home state. I would appreciate any information you

could give me. Thanks:)

The classes are fine and the instructors are good. I am ****** because they just dropped the price, but since i am already in the program, i still had to pay the old price and can't get a refund at the lesser amount. (MAL's policy not a WBU thing) I go to texas one weekend a month. Depending on the semester it is either a friday saturday sunday, or thursday afternoon-sunday afternoon. It aint bad and i split the room cost with someone from my class. If you really want shoot me your e-mail and i will send you a copy of the clinical schedule for the two years. The nice thing is they have it planned out a long time in advance so you can plan accordingly. You can't do the clinicals in your home state. You have to be supervised. You can for your FNP, but not for a bachelors.

Thanks backtalk for all the great info you have been providing us on the different threads. If possible I would really appreciate it if you could email me the schedule discussed above. Also, can you tell me how the exams are being proctored and if HESIs are required as well? Did you have to secure private loans or are they now able to support federal loans? Thanks again! --Rachael

Could you email me that schedule as well? [email protected]

I'm planning on starting the Online BSN in Feb. I'm finishing the last prerequisite, Microbiology, through UNE Online.

I've got to talk to the VA department down at WBU, and see how the GI Bill is working for the Online BSN.

Thanks for the schedule.

I am considering beginning the online RN program in February. They analyzed my transcripts and I am 25 credits short! That seems like a lot considering I have a doctorate. Did you run into the same thing?

Thanks, that would be great....my email is [email protected]. I was going to start the program but I am now really turned off by all the prerequisites they want me to take. Do you think you will get enough clinical experience by doing your hours one weekend a month? Rachel
