Children's Hospital of Philadelphia new grad residency 2024

Published

Hello ! Starting a new thread for folks who are graduating this year and are looking to apply to CHOP ! I managed to get a phone screening for CHOP but I feel like maybe I applied too early ? They said that if they get back to me the earliest I can start is February.

Tbh I don't mind starting my nursing career late as long as I get an offer, so hopefully I hear back from them. 🤞

I graduated in the Spring , I had an interview for the ICU cohort already and supposed to her back soon but still nothing. how about you? did you have an interview yet? if so what unit? have they sent you any kind of updates so far

Hello there! Have you heard back yet?

I was offered the position in the rotating ICU cohort over 3 weeks ago. I start March 3rd! Waiting on an official offer letter but they are very slow in the process. Anyone starting with me?

First of all, congrats on getting a position! Yes, they are slow in getting things rolling but since it's December and the holidays are coming up again then perhaps you might not get the official offer letter till January? I hope it comes sooner ofc!

Im personally still in the interview stage. How did yours go? What questions did they ask for ICU?

Thank you!! I'm so excited to start. I had open heart surgery at CHOP over 30 years ago when I was 4 months old. I'm so fortunate that I was given this position. I've been on 5 interviews (I'm not the best interviewer tbh) and got the one I wanted. It all comes back full circle and things truly happen for a reason.

The recruiter told me she was waiting on links and details from the leadership team and would send them to officially get me in the process.

Questions were things like

Why CHOP

Explain when you went above and beyond for a patient

Difficult coworker and patient situations

A mistake you made

things like that, nothing specific to ICU I was surprised about that! Most of my other interviews had similar questions.

Anyone know which units are still open? I have a phone screen next week!

Heya! I just graduated from my ABSN program in December, and just took and passed the NCLEX this week. I'm hoping to apply to CHOP's new grad residency program but there's no information on their website about start dates or how to apply to the program. In the FAQs under how to apply, there's a link that directs you to their careers page, but all the listed positions require at least a year of RN experience. It seems almost impossible to get your foot in the door...

Anybody here have advice for me?

They will add a listing on the residency page whenever there is a need, there are no set times when they are posted unfortunately. I graduated last May and reached out to them and was told they wouldn't be opening up the residency until at last fall time. So it really just depends on when they have a need. They had one up for March start that I applied to which has since been taken down due to a lot of applicants so hopefully they will put a new one up soon!

They tell you what they have available and update you. I hope you're phone screen went well!

Check every day, at least two times a day just to be safe. That's what I did.

Hey,

Hope everyone gets the job they want! When do you guys apply to the program, in your last semester or after you graduate? I am in nursing school now and have been getting mixed signals when the best time is.

Thanks!

I applied in my last semester! By the time they got back to me , I was already a month before graduating.

I know this is a year old, but for those of you who went into this residency, when did applications first open? How often do they open? I see they're open right now but it says they're accepting applicants who graduate before April 30. I graduate in May. How often do they open new rounds for applications?
