Child bitten by another child

Question for all you School Nurses out there. If a child is bitten by another child in school, Are you responsible for calling and informing the parents of the child who was bitten or does your administration or the classroom teacher make that call?

My son bit another kid. Very out of character for him. The teacher called me, wanted to know if he had any communicable diseases. I wanted to know more about the incident. The nurse told me my son was in tears, he was so upset. The kid who was bitten was very nonchalant, looking @ his finger like, oh, an owie. So the nurse asked him what his finger was doing near my son's mouth.

So, the teacher told me. (btw, both kids were in spec ed.)

Unless I need the student to be seen immediately by another medical professional, I assess and treat, than talk with our Dean of Students. 9/10 it is actually the Dean that brings me the student to access so that he can communicate to the parent the situation after he has done a brief investigation. He will pass on my assessment if it is a minor injury, more major I will call first, give my assessment, and he is ready for me to transfer the call to him for follow-up on the discipline piece. It took some time to get this communication plan in place, but it is awesome and works very well.

Thanks everyone for your input. It was a discussion here today so I just wanted to see how others handle it. There's a new administrator here this year so he wanted to handle it differently than in the past.
