Hi there!
I saw that there wasn't a thread yet for Chico's BSN program for this year's round of applications for the Fall 2021 cohort. Hoping to get a feel for this year's applicant pool.
I wanted to make a thread where we could discuss the program and the application process! Feel free to drop your stats, questions, or comments below.

As a graduate from the program, the way the school works is you can apply under any major, but ideally pre-nursing if you want to get into the impacted nursing program (40) students. I would say there is (on average) 200-400 applicants into our nursing program every semester, many of those being pre-nursing students. It's competitive, but it's worth it. The more experience and better grades, the better. The point system rewards people who have attended Chico State and have completed course work there. However, you could spend 5 years at Chico State as a pre-nursing major and never have adequate points to get into the program. Pre-nursing is just a fancy way of saying undecided. Many of those who are determined get into Chico's program or another university's. Many others change their major to something like health administration or public health, etc. Chico State will accept you if you have a pulse and you're above a 2.0 GPA (joking), but the school of nursing itself only ever has ≤200 students at any given time (5 cohorts, ~40 students each). Study smart, work hard, don't let up. The grind of getting into the program's 40 spots is more rigorous than the program itself. If you have the tenacity to do that, you'll do just fine in classes. I hope all that came with a grain of salt.

Wow, thank you for the insight! Do you know around when do we get our nursing program admission decisions?

I never got an email, but I checked my portal today and noticed that it says I was admitted. Does anyone know when they usually send acceptance for the nursing program?
Application for the University under pre-nursing and application for the school of nursing itself are entirely separate. Typically you will complete your prerequisites between 2-3 years, though I've seen some as quick as 1.5. Once you have all that done and have hopefully maximized your application points though various efforts (delineated on the program's website and calculator), you may then apply to the RN-BSN program. Again, admission into CSU, Chico as a pre-nursing major DOES NOT mean you will finish with your Bachelors in Nursing. It is an impacted program that you have to test into and apply for.
Once you've done all that, applicants usually hear in May/December depending on which cohort you applied for (Fall/Spring)
best of luck

if you took your TEAS and applied to the program with competitive points, Fall cohort applicants hear in May, Spring cohort applicants hear in December (usually). This is discounting waitlist students, though fewer and fewer students are enrolled off the waitlist each successive semester.

I know they usually send them during finals week, but it's weird not to have any kind of update email from them.
I haven't heard anything either, which is odd. I don't know if that means I am on the waitlist or they just are still sending offers out? Not sure, but has anyone heard or not heard anything as well, tomorrow is the last day to hear!!

No you’re definitely not on the waitlist. If nobody has heard anything then they haven’t sent out any offers yet. I promise you that tomorrow is not the last day. They usually send them during finals week, which is next week. I was just hoping for an update. Don’t be worried! We will hear when they are ready. A lot of times they take extra time to do “tie-breakers” between people with the same number of points ?♀️

If you had been accepted to other CSU’s and were on the fence of where to attend there is no way to wait for Chico’s decision. Seems strange to me. Oh well, good luck everyone.
I agree, I got an extension until the 15th for the other CSU nursing program that I got offered a seat at, because Chico is my first choice. But I thought I would hear from Chico by now so it makes things stressful. Hopefully they send out letters today or tomorrow since that's what the website says!!

I have 95 based on that nursing calculator online, but it probably is a little less depending on how they calculate it, how about everyone else?
