Chicagoland Job Market

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hello Everyone,

Just looking for some insight on the IL job market.

Moved down from WI after completing my generalized master's and am looking to get back into ICU (have a little over 1 year experience). I'm finding it hard to find these positions--actually any RN positions. I have gone on several interviews--but could not close the deal due to my lack of experience.

Are the systems on hiring freezes? Also, I was told that it was good I had at least the little experience I do, because they are not hiring new grads in this area at all.

Any input from those who know this area would be great!

Thanks

Hi there!

I'm a new grad from the Chicago area and I can tell you that our city is completely saturated with new grads as well as experienced nurses from outside the city who thought they could find better jobs here. Right now, the majority of the reputable hospitals are very picky; however, you may have a little more luck with looking into Resurrection Healthcare, UIC Medical Center, and advocate healthcare if you haven't already. Those are the largest teaching health systems that are willing to give new grads or fairly new nurses a try. Rush Medical Center is also a good choice, however, I have a feeling that their graduates have already filled up most positions that may apply to you as well. If anything, just keep pushing applications through and call the office every once in a while to let them know that you're a little more eager than everyone else.

Good luck and I hope you find your dream job soon!

getting a job for a new grad is very hard! I have been looking for weeks and spent days filling out long applications.
