Chemistry grade C+ not good enough

Published

Well, I have gone to school for almost 3 years attempting entry into the nursing dept. This college requires almost all A's and have come right out yesterday and told me I should get into dental hygiene because of the C+ in chemistry. The family dentist told me that dental hygienists are having a hard time finding work because there are so many of them. Why would this state college try and steer me into something like that? I am 50 years old and just wonder if all colleges are the same in regard to grades.

No do not give up go to community college for a LPN

If your dream is to be a nurse, then stay where you are. Remember that you and only you know what you can handle. I failed three of my classes and here is what I was told:

"What would you do if you found out that the nurse that was caring for you only knew 70% of the info rather than 95%?"

This really made me realize that they are sticklers about the grades they ask for because they wanted me to be a safe nurse who knows what the hell she is doing. After all, the pts are alive and depend on me to make the right choices to guide them towards the healing process. I'm not working on a dummy, my mistakes affect those around me.

So, I gave up, went through life a little longer, then decided that If I could hone down my goal I could have a better chance in meeting my overall goal of becoming an R.N. I have been out of high school 23 yrs so it has been a while. LPN school is hard because you have to learn so much in so little time but it gave me the push to get something done towards my goal. Now, I am working and will begin again on my pre-reqs that I failed previously in the fall. I will know more from working and will have more confidence when I re-enter in the fall.

Last, but not least, you have to realize that others may not believe in you but you must always believe in yourself. God would not want anything less from you. I still tell myself everyday that I want this, I need this and I am going to get it.

So, my suggestion to you would be not to re-examine your goal but to re-examine your path and go forth with what is best for you. Good luck and may the future steer you in the right direction. :)
