  1. Thanks to all with the helpful advice. Apparently from all the responses posted here, every school must have their own set of guidelines as to the qualifiers to gain entry into the nursing segment of college. Unfortunately, C+ is not good enough at this state university, at least in chemistry, although the community college requires no chemistry whatsoever! It is all mind bogglingly craziness and I am now going into the direction of counseling for a career. A word of warning to all: The counselor in "Human Services" informed me that starting in January, their department will also begin requiring guidelines similar to the Nursing Dept. It will be much harder to gain entry so my advice to anyone struggling with the decision of which direction to go (if having difficulty maintaining A's for grades to enter nursing) would be to figure it out quickly, that is, if their next best goal is in Humanities! Thanks again.
  2. Thank you very much for the words in season. It is hard after approximately 3 years of college to let go....of the nursing aspect. It was a childhood dream that lasted five decades! Your words are correct and right and true and honest. There will be a niche somewhere for me to help people. God is in control and all my trust is in him. There is so much need, it is overwhelming and it is not just people in need. The very Earth itself is in need! Thanks again for your true and needed words.
  3. Well, I have gone to school for almost 3 years attempting entry into the nursing dept. This college requires almost all A's and have come right out yesterday and told me I should get into dental hygiene because of the C+ in chemistry. The family dentist told me that dental hygienists are having a hard time finding work because there are so many of them. Why would this state college try and steer me into something like that? I am 50 years old and just wonder if all colleges are the same in regard to grades.
  4. In the fifty years I have been on planet earth, there are many paths I have taken. From mother, now Grandmother, author, grocery stalker, maid and finally...nursing student. All of my life medical stuff interested me and for almost three years now I have been in college to try and achieve the goal of becoming an R.N. Now it looks like I may have to switch gears and pick another career as my grades are not all A's. A student can probably get into the nursing segment with one B, but the rest need to be A's. It makes me sad and confused because I really felt the Lord was leading me into a career to help people less fortunate than ourselves. It would not have scared me to work with contagious diseases of any kind. My dream and goal was to end up in a third world country helping people to dig wells, garden, and of course, treat the people medically. At age fifty, time is of the essence and I do not know what to do next. I pray God will lead me to wherever he needs me, because at this point, I am unsure. Thanks for listening. Connie
