Wow...just found out about this CLEPing a couple of minutes ago..pretty cool..
Question, I'm looking at West Chester University as a possibility. One of their prereqs is Chem 107, Chemistry for the Allied Health Sciences or you have had to take both Chem 103 (chem 1) and Chem 104 (chem 2) as an equivalent.
I took Chem 111 (chem 1) at Millersville roughly 9 years ago, but never took Chem 112 (chem 2). So in order to apply to WCU, I'd have to take Chem 107 or Chem 2 (which scares me because I had the first part 9 years ago....) Can I CLEP out of Chemistry? Their website says:
"The Chemistry examination covers material that is usually taught in a one-year general chemistry course."
So...that's Chem 1&2? Or just Chem 1? Would it be equivalent to this Chemistry for the Allied Health Sciences course?
Who would I talk to about this at West Chester? The nursing department or the advising center? Or is there another department in colleges that handles this? Has anybody CLEP'd Chemistry? Hard?
Thanks for any advice/help!

I had a friend who was excellent with chemistry in high school. Really enjoyed the subject and felt secure with it. She tried to clep and was a bit stunned at how difficult the test was. I would wait for some other replies from people who have actually taken the clep exam before you make a choice. Were you comfortable with the chemistry class you took?

A one-year general chemistry course would be Chem I and Chem II. Honestly, I wouldn't CLEP out of chem. You do learn certain skills and concepts that will help you both in your other science courses and nursing (I'm thinking of med. calculations). And some schools record a CLEP exam as a "C" in the course(s) on your transcript, so check and see what WCU would do with it.
If you did really well in Chem I, see if they will let you take Chem II, even though you had Chem I 9 years ago. Having said that, you will definitely want to review Chem I concepts before taking Chem II. There are tons of good, educational/university websites out there that can help you review. If you've forgotten everything about Chem I, then my advice would be to talk to an advisor at the school and see which course(s) s/he recommends you take, chemistry-wise. Just my , of course!
I actually originally went in as a Chem major, but then changed after my first semester to Psychology...Just checked my transcripts, C+ in Chem I , thought I did better than that..I remember enjoying it but I guess I didn't do that well, guess that's why I switched to Psych! :chuckle
So now I'm scared about possibly taking Chem II..? I really want to take the one for allied health sciences, but it's only held from 12-12:50 three days a week, or 3-4:55 twice a week...not to mention the lab, and I work full time all day, 8-5...whereas I believe Chem II is held at a more reasonable time, starting at 6PM....
I dunno....prereqs frustrate me!!

Check to make sure you can even CLEP the Chem. Many schools will not accept CLEPs for a prereq. It might be best to just take the Chem 107, and hopefully it will be more useful than the Chem 2 since it is geared toward health care.
