Cheaters!

Ok so in my program this semester I have been having quite a more difficult time than I did last semester. (I'm in my 2nd semester) I have med surg, Pharm and Psych. I did less than stellar and got a 75% on my med surg test, my lowest score in the entire program. I thought that a classmate was cheating and mentioned it to a friend in the program, To make a long story short people in my class are cheating and have been seen by more than just me. This just infuriates me. I bust my ass for a 75% and people are in the program freaking cheating and bragging about how high their test scores are. And these people are still in the program! uggghhh. Has anyone else experienced this in their program. And should I mention anything more to the teacher or have I already sat on this information too long?(The teacher is aware that something is going on as she said so last class but I don't believe she knows who.)

I'm not questioning whether or not anyone has cheated. But, Italia said "considered" or saw it as an option.

For me it was a 5th grade Science test ... I made the crib notes, rewriting the info over and over small enough to get it all on the paper and big enough to read, long story short ... I didn't need them, I was studying by rewriting the info, then got caught with the notes when I was throwing them away!

For me it was 7th grade social studies. I made a crib sheet and didn't need it after all. I never did do that again, but I never got caught either.

I personally think that you should let them spend all that money for courses that in the end they'll just have to repeat or throw away. They will have student debt, the school will get money, you'll pass your boards and never see them again and you'll all make out with what you deserve! :wink2:

Thanks. What makes me so mad is one of them is such a kiss ass. She says stuff like " Cheaters only cheat their patients." Yeah no duh. I would be happy if the group of them would stay as far away from me as humanly possible.

In RN school, the last student who got expelled for cheating went to a med calc test with the formulas taped to her scientific calculator. Someone saw her and ratted her out

Ratting....

now that's just as bad as cheating in my HONEST opinion. I don't condone cheating but at least I am honest when I say some people should just mind their own business with matters that clearly do not concern themselves. The effort some expend worrying about the person to the left or right of them can be spent worrying about their own grades.

My response won't be approved of I am sure, but oh well, rats have their own place in the world; that's why they live in sewers and eat ANYTHING.

Those who rat on others end up becoming the nurses who gossip, backstab, and cut other nurses' throats.

And this is my HONEST opinion.:wink2:

i wouldn't be so harsh, but for the most part i agree with you. and i do not think that people who tell on other people do that because they worry what kind of a nurse will that person be. they do that because of their own reasons, which i do not think they even admit to themselves. i do not cheat, but i would never tell on anybody. my business is minding my own business and my own goals. if somebody wants to cheat, good, let them do it. we cannot all be the same and it is foolish to think that somebody can make all the people act as one. i am not here to change the world.

not in my book. it's a lot easier being quiet and "minding your own business" but it's not always right to do so. today it's a test, tomorrow it could be a covered up med error, etc. someone could get hurt and it could be a patient, you or your loved one.

nurses need to be honest. character is huge in nursing. if there are two nurses to choose from to care for me or for my loved one, i'll take the person who spoke up for what is right. who'd be left for you to choose from? maybe you honestly would want a "cheater" to take care of you?

we are all different. you have that right. should i mind my own business if i see your nurse cheating when she's taking care of you? documenting things s/he didn't do? etc.?

Let me just say I did not "Ratt". I let the person who did alert the teacher that some type of cheating was going on due to the distraction and noise they were making during the last test, with there cell phones handle that. I never let on I knew who it was and the person who did does not.

I started this thread to ask about people's experiences. And obviously I guess you have never had to be around students like this nor cared I guess. But hopefully that classmate of mine will never care for one of your loved ones. But if they made a mistake due to their lack of knowledge, maybe no one would say anything huh?.:nono:

It would not be so bad if they were not so arrogant about their grades, If you are cheating ok fine. But cheating and then bragging about what great grades you get, is just crazy.

Okay I guess I'll add another 2 cents:twocents:.

I don't think its fair to say ratting is as bad as cheating. That is rediculous in my opinion. :uhoh3:

To play devil's advocate here, in the slim chances that these individuals are actually passing on their own but "cheating" to improve their GPA, then this could be a problem when you are competing for the same position after graduation don't you think?

Or maybe at the end they cram enough that they pass the NCLEX by the seat of their pants...is it fair to move you down the "rank" in the class when rank is considered for some scholarships and such?

I would not get involved and tell on anyone. Its the teachers responsiblity to catch people cheating in class, not students.

i have and you know what they finally got caught :nono:! Though it took a couple of semesters but im glad ==they deserved it

in my book cheaters never win :)

Well there are definitely two well-defined lines here.

The US Marine Corps teaches PRIDE, COURAGE and INTEGRITY. It is one of the core values of the Marines for a reason. Would you want someone who had NO personal integrity (a liar, a cheat) covering your back in a fire fight? Would you want someone who lacked personal integrity commanding your unit into battle? Would you want this person working for you as a subordinate?

While we may not be ducking bullets or worried that WE may not come out alive, our profession is one that holds other's lives in the balance. It is one that can affect the lives of every single person we come in contact with. Whether it be a family member or a dying child. Would you want someone who lacked personal integrity taking care of your son? Your daughter?

To me, there is no place in the world for one who cheats. It is the one who cheats who becomes the backstabber. It is the one who cheats who becomes the gossip for they have no actual skills with which to base their profession on. Without these tactics they have no opportunity to keep their job. They learn early in life that they can get what they want not by following protocol, but by making up their own as they go regardless of the damage it may cause to others - often without even thinking about the effect it is having on themselves.

I think it shows far more courage to have tipped of the instructor - preferably anonymously. Some of us work damn hard for every little piece of anything that we have in this world. We call that the pursuit of excellence. Cheaters are the reason we live in a world that strives for mediocrity.

Okay so I was about to say something along these lines and refrained because I didn't want to get off on a tangent...if I were on a bus and going to be mugged/assaulted but could bring any one of these people on board with me...I would choose the "ratter" (for lack of a better word)...because I know they would probably be the first to defend me because they didn't mind putting their nose in my business...JMHO. Overall the ratters are probably the most courageous and decent of people. Its not selfish to want a "fair" fight. :smiley_ab
