Right now I'm just getting my pre-reqs to sit for the Lactation Consultant board exam, but may eventually go into nursing (lots of the courses I'm taking now are required in the nursing program too so I'll already have those covered, yay!). I just signed up for Basic Health Profession Skills (HPRS-1204 at El Centro College in Dallas). I need a stethoscope, and it said "i.e., Littmann Select" but I'm not really keen on spending $50 if I don't have to... I would rather purchase a better one in a year or two when I need one again. But I also don't want to get a piece of junk, obviously.
TIA!

Considering that you can spend hundreds of dollars on a stethoscope, $50 seems pretty cheap. The ones I've seen recommended for nursing students are the Littmann Classic 2 but it looks to be in the $75 range.

I love my KILA, but it's more than $50.00. I have a stethoscope I bought at Walmart when I was a nurse aid to practice taking BP's with. I keep it in my first aid I carry in my car. It looks like a Littman select, and I think it works pretty good. I think I paid around $19.99 for it.
