Yes, I am at the end of the 1st semester. There is a lot of busy work (assignments, discussion posts, SOAP notes, etc). It's a confusing, hard and time consuming semester because it's the 3Ps all at once but it's honestly so beneficial to have them all together. My cohort (FNP/PMHNP combined in the 1st semester) is working really well together to make sure no one is left behind. Let me know if you have any specific questions!
I'm sorry, but this is a very poor quality program. I am now in charge of recruiting and hiring for a very large psych practice, and I refuse to hire anyone from Charles Drew. Our practice made the mistake of hiring a few PMHNPs from there a few years ago (before I took over recruiting), and they were very poor quality. Frankly, they often committed malpractice and created huge liability issues for our practice. They also treated patients very poorly and many, many patients complained bitterly. Even worse, despite being counseled repeatedly, they refused to behave better. I strongly advise against going to this school.

Sad that you're letting a few bad apples taint your view of an entire institution. There are many factors that may have contributed to them being not to your standards. I can say that CDU has revamped their PMHNP program, I am in the first cohort of the new program with new leadership and new requirements and knowledge checkpoints. Every alumni I've spoken to is working. There are limited options for MSN programs in SoCal, especially when it comes to preceptor placement (which CDU provides). Do your research and speak to former students about their experience with the school and their ability to find a job afterwards. Cheers

I am providing you with an employer's view. We hired CDU PMHNPs and greatly regret it. Just because an NP is working does not mean they are a good quality NP. In fact, one of our "bad apples" supposedly teaches at CDU. As a student, you are not yet in a position to determine if CDU will provide you with the education needed to be a good-quality PMHNP.
If CDU has improved their PMHNP program, great. However, I still will not hire anyone from this school.

Hey fellow nurses! Does anyone have insight to Charles R. Drew University PMHNP program? Anyone starting this Summer? I've been accepted to start this Summer but having a hard time finding any student accounts of their experience. Thanks!
