Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science Entry Level MSN (ELMSN)

Published

Hi all! I am curious who applied for the fall 2019/spring 2020 elmsn program at Charles drew? I want to keep up to date and see when we get interviews and so forth. Does anyone know what is covered during the interview and how to prep for it?

I applied there and got an interview after the HESI. Unfortunately, I failed my chemistry, but got an overall score of 83%. They don't care much about the overall score though, they want every category to be at least 75%. The interview went well. They advised me to retake right away and if I pass chem, then they'll take me in. I have yet to retake the exam.

The interview wasn't as hard as I thought. They pretty much want to know your background and the questions are just basic. They do make you write an essay right on the spot and take a dosage and calculation quiz - all part of the interview.

Thank you! How long did it take for them to get back to you after you submit the application?

After submitting the application, you can go ahead and schedule for your HESI. They will either interview you after the HESI or will let you know. Mine took about 2 weeks or less.

Same day as HESI

I submitted my HESI before the other material. it's been almost two weeks. urghh im so nervous

Hey, I am applying for the spring of 2020. I did take the Hesi today and failed biology but did well in all the other subjects. I do need to take Microbiology class and lab and of course retake the Hesi then I will be good to go! I am just tired of studying and want to get into the program. I will also look into other programs because Charles Drew is making things hard to get in.

Hi! I actually have my interview today! I submitted my application on 10/29 (practically at the very last minute LOL) and they called me about a week later! I'll let you know how the interview goes!

Okay, let us know! I have a few more things to complete before turning in my application. I’m a little irritated by the school because recently I found out that all your pre reqs including non science has to be a B or above and I got a B- in nutrition, which I took years ago. I did email the dean. I don’t think it is right that they are just now telling us this when I’ve applied to this program from since 2018 and now the rules has changed , leading closer to the application deadline. Is anyone else frustrated as well??

Aw I'm sorry about that! When did they tell you about the pre req grade change?? Yeah the application process was a little disorganized to be honest! It's so hard to find any information on the program's page, so I had to call them a few times to get some answers!

As for the interview, they ask you to come in an hour earlier than your scheduled time to fill out paperwork. It is basically a packet with 2 dosage calculation problems, a survey asking you about your lifestyle choices (like how you deal with stress, if you get enough sleep), a survey of your priorities (family, friends, school, etc), and the last page is the statement of purpose. You are to type that like right then and there lol it's pretty awkward because you literally sit behind their registration desk and type it. Students will literally come up to you and ask for assistance if the administrator is not next to you because they will think you work there LOL. After that you will do the interview with 2 faculty members and they basically have a packet of questions that ask about your background, what your goals are, how you plan to be successful as a student, etc. The questions were kinda general but I'm worried I didn't elaborate as much as I could've cus my brain was fried after that packet and essay!

Oh nice! I’m sure you did well! Was the calculations and essay hard?? I was suppose to retake the Hesi today but I had to reschedule until December 10th.

They told me about the update pre reqs two weeks ago, which has been very stressful for me. I’ve applied from since 2018 and since then, I’ve had two advisors and apparently the dean keeps changing. I did email the dean to see if they can honor what I was told when I first applied to the program if not then I guess I will apply for fall 2020 which I really don’t want to wait that long.

Maybe we can exchange emails To stay in touch , since we are both applying to the same school.
