Hello Everyone!
I know I'm early but I'm super excited to begin nursing school. I was wondering if anyone else here is planning to apply to Charity for Fall 2012? Are you done with your prereqs? Taken the HESI? What's your profile score?
I have taken all of my prereqs but it has been 6 years since I took A&P II lecture/lab so I'm taking it now at Delgado. I'm taking the lecture online and I go on campus for the lab. We have only done one exercise in lab so far and I already feel like its not going to be very easy. I took the HESI on Monday and I did pretty well so I'm done with that thank God!
I calculated my profile score and if I get an A in the A&P lecture I'll have 70 points. If I get a B or C, I'll have 65 points. I'm super nervous because when I talked to the admissions lady at Charity she told me the cut off tends to be a bit higher for the Fall semester than the Spring. From reading the forum, it looks like the cut off for Spring 2012 was around a 55 so I'm worried that the cut off for Fall will be like 75!
Good luck to everyone and I hope to meet some of my future classmates!
All shucks!! I'm taking A&P I. Well can you give me any pointers to achieve an A?
I'm looking for pointers myself. LOL. I have never taken A&P at Delgado before but so far it seems like you have to devote more time to the online class than an on-campus class. I would recommend using flash cards and reviewing your notes daily. For me A&P is basically a LOT of memorization so you have to do what works for you. You definitely don't want to get behind because we go through way too much material. I am doing something with A&P each day. Whether it be homework, watching the online lectures, or just reviewing my notes. HTH!
Well I made a 75 on the hesi not as good as i wanted but I freaked out,so I am going to take it again since i know what to expect now! I already took all my A&P Classes .I got a 98 in lab I and 89 in lecture I ! A&PII i got a 87 in lecture and 93 in lab ! my advice is study study study ! thats all i did for at least 5 hours a day every day. I was so determined to get good grades in A&P I devoted most of my time to them along with other classes ! I lived at the biology lab in city park they have most of the models from lab and they also have different ways to remember things for lecture. I also listened to a lot of you tube video's on biology too. they have professors from Yale and other major universities that also helped ! good luck to ya'll ! :)
Ashley, don't beat yourself up too bad. At least you can say that you passed it. And as far as A&P goes, I took them at SELU, and one semester, I took my last A&P along with Micropathogens, and I was getting the Latin words for the muscles confused with the Latin words for Micro. It is hard because it's so much info at once. Anyway, that was the hardest section for me on the HESI.
After reading many of you all's post about taking the Hesi test, I am very nervous myself. I am already an LPN of 5 years, and I have all of my pre-reqs, but when I take timed exams I freak out! You all make the Hesi seem so easy, but it's not easy when you have completed your Science pre-reqs like A&P and Biology several years ago. Sometimes if you don't continue to study that stuff, you loose it!
@ Phil you mentioned that you had choosen to take your math first & your science last, at Delgado testing center can you do such a thing? I was told that you do not have to take the Chemistry & Physics portion. Is that true? @ Leanna, I have been studying all the things you've suggested...Thanks.
Are there any word problems? Metric Conversions? And what is the Critical Thinking part?
I am asking because I hate that the Evolve book is so thin, and many people are saying they used other study guides. The school's website does not mention any other study material. BTW, I will probably take the test in December for the LPN-RN Bridge Program.
Any information would be helpful & grately appreciated!

congrats ashley....that's passing! i like to say c = nurse. many good nurses are not great test takers, but they can perform their butts off on a floor when it comes to taking care of a live patient! take it from me! i am an lpn for only 5 years, but i am not a great test taker, i do well on paper exams, but after failing boards many times until i finally passed, i really freak out on computer tests! but at the end of the day i am a great nurse with many skills! i am the head nurse in a clinic where i work now, and i've had the privilege to work with the best peditrician in the world (moderator edit of name - please do not post names of individuals on the public boards per tos)! so don't beat yourself up honie! kudos to u
@MZMARTIN7 Thank You !!! I hope charity sees it that way too! lol and about the hesi its 5 hours total. You can start on any section u want first. No chemisty or Physics on the hesi ! I was the second to last one leaving test cause i tired not to panic and took every bit of the 5 hours I could.Believe it or not the evole book is right on the money with most of the test. GOOD LUCK TO YOU !! what is ur email address so I can ask you a question ?
mzmartin, there is NO chemistry or physics on the test even though the Evolve book has it in there. I called head of admissions at Charity to make sure before the test. When you go to to take the test and log in, all of the sections come up at once and you can click on which ever section you want to do first. There is no particular order nor are you timed for each individual section. Oh, and I used mnemonics as well, and it does help, but there is still so much that I had would remember one little sentence, and say to myself, "Oh no, that was for the left leg!!" LOL I got through both labs with an A, BUT I would never want to take those classes again!! It was pretty bad! I know Nursing School will be rough too though. I would give you my email address, but it contains my last name, and I don't want to put it on here where a
million people will see it.

@msleana hi i am also taking a&p online @ delgado i am looking for all the help i can get this si my 1st time taking it and i am aiming for an a. which lab do you attend? i have not taken the hesi yet. i am studying the study guide constantly. i feel that the only struggle i will have is the biology & a&p. i want to take it soon but i also want to give myself some time to allow a&p to soak in. i do plan on thtaking way before the deadline so i am able to reapply. i was denied the 1st time because my cumulative gpa was 2 points short to be even considered but my csn gpa was a 3.2. so i am very hopeful for this time around. i am looking for any information that will help me enter into the program for the fall 2012. if you decide to do any study groups for a&p please contact me at tyedye6100 on yahoo. good luck to everybody!!
