Hello Everyone!
I know I'm early but I'm super excited to begin nursing school. I was wondering if anyone else here is planning to apply to Charity for Fall 2012? Are you done with your prereqs? Taken the HESI? What's your profile score?
I have taken all of my prereqs but it has been 6 years since I took A&P II lecture/lab so I'm taking it now at Delgado. I'm taking the lecture online and I go on campus for the lab. We have only done one exercise in lab so far and I already feel like its not going to be very easy. I took the HESI on Monday and I did pretty well so I'm done with that thank God!
I calculated my profile score and if I get an A in the A&P lecture I'll have 70 points. If I get a B or C, I'll have 65 points. I'm super nervous because when I talked to the admissions lady at Charity she told me the cut off tends to be a bit higher for the Fall semester than the Spring. From reading the forum, it looks like the cut off for Spring 2012 was around a 55 so I'm worried that the cut off for Fall will be like 75!
Good luck to everyone and I hope to meet some of my future classmates!
learning2care, Micro was the hardest class that I had to take. I actually made a "C" the first time, took it over and made an "A". The first time I took it, I was also taking A&P so I was getting so confused with all of the Latin names for the bones and the pathogens. I don't know if you know about ratemyprofessors.com, but you can see which teachers are teaching it and then look them up on that website under DCC to see what people wrote about them. Hope I don't get in trouble for putting that websie on here. Anyway, i's probably good that you're going to take it by itself. And it wasn't the learning of the diseases that was hard for me, but when they get into DNA replication, Krebs cycle, and genetics, that's where it's really hard. I had to go to my teacher for her to explain some of that to me outside of class b/c it just wasn't clicking, but then I got it.
Ok- found out some interesting news today from a classmate whose friend knows someone in the decision making process at CSN. Apparently, last week they met to come down to a total of only 24 applicants that will be accepted. 2 of these applicants had applied for a June class(?) but got into this one instead. The person said that her friend could only confirm that each person was looked at and considered fairly. (in other words- she couldn't tell her if she was accepted or not). She also confirmed Friday as the day letters will be sent out.
The program that starts in June is the LPN-RN transition program. Their apps had to be in by Jan 15th. The regular RN programs start in either January or August. It's in the Charity bulletin on their website. I don't know about everyone else, but I applied for the regular RN program. Because I just can't imagine a class that small out of 200 or more applicants, but I guess I could be wrong.
I agree completely! I don't know about that number. It seems very small and it shocked me! - Especially since I heard that there were a lot of people applying. I still don't understand why we can't just get an email or check a site and be given a confidential number, you know- like they do when girls make the cheerleading squad. Ha! Seriously, though. I don't mean to start any rumors, I hope that is not true, too. It really would be a ridiculously small group. I, too, hope we all get in and we can meet each other in person! The nerves are freyed and I am just, at this point, giving up until Friday. If I get it before then, I'll be surprised :) Good luck, everyone.

Well, since we have time to kill while we're waiting- Is anyone else in A & P II this semester? I have to make it through that, so even if I get in, it will be "contingent" on my passing that AND I have to take Micro this summer. THAT should be interesting. I hear it's as tough as AnP but it will be squished into 7 weeks! Yikes! Anyone have exp. w this class during the summer? Hell- anyone have experience w that class that may help? Teachers on the northshore that have worked out well? I don't think we can mention them by name... but perhaps we can describe them on here. Lol
By the way... this waiting thing is absolutely ridiculous. Why do they even lie? I think part of the problem is the left hand (or handS) doesn't talk to the right. You ask one person a question... not even necessarily re: admissions and you could get a completely different answer than you get from someone else? This is insane!! Ugh. Ok... enough w my frustrations. Lol. Maybe if we all keep calling and asking, they'll finally just say, "PUT THEM IN THE MAIL!" Or- they could move up w technology, like someone else mentioned and E-mail or even CALL us!
